I didn't try the legendary Iroshizuku ink until quite recently when a pen friend sent me a sample of the shin-ryoku. Since this ink is both legendary and expensive - now even more so since Pilot's price increase - the expectations are high and my judgement harsher than with a cheaper ink. An ink in this price range - what do they put in it to make it so expensive?!? - is not supposed to perform less than top-notch...

Thank you! It truly is an amazing colour!

are my eyes playing tricks on me or does it look similar to Dragon's Napalm ?

I unfortunately haven't tried that, but hopefully someone else know.

What a striking, beautiful review. Much better than my job.

Thanks once again, Dandelion.

Thank you so much, Damon!

Another lovely review; thanks Dandelion!

They're similar, but Dragon's Napalm has a pink undertone that I don't see in fuyu-gaki. Dandelion's scan does look a bit pink on my monitor - fuyu-gaki is more orange to orange red in real life (at least my bottle is).

I think it is similar to, but not quite a perfect match to, Noodlers Habanero.

Milady Dandelion :

Wonderful and beautiful review of a gorgeous ink ! Kudos.

When I wrote a review of this ink last year, I was entranced with the colour, which carried the Proustian moment for me of the persimmon orchards of Japan in autumn, the fruits gently dangling from bare limbs as the wind swayed them to and fro. In the months since I posted my comments, the memories have become, if anything, more intense and powerful whenever I put pen to paper with this ink.

Thanks for another such moment whilst reading your review !

Dandelion--

I love your pictures. The tableaux in the second photo is beautifully arranged, with objects echoing the color of the ink. thanks for a great review! I have two reds from iroshizuku, and unfortunately this isn't one of them.

And I was thinking Noodler's Cayenne.

Excellent review and quite beautiful as well. I am intrigued by the little orange cans at the top edge of your notebook - so pretty! What are they and how is it that they match the ink color so nicely?

One of my favorite inks for making margin notes in laser drafts of documents. The other is Waterman Red (although there's some color variation between lots).

I always get a kick out of these "no affiliation" notations when it's blatantly obvious the poster has absolutely nothing to do with the brand, company, etc. beyond being a customer. It must be a feel-good/feel-important thing. So I'll note up front that nothing I write here on this forum is influenced by any financial-gain motivation.

Since the recent price increase it is around $30.

It is small tea cans from China. I was so happy when I realised that they'd make a perfect match to the ink. Happy that you liked it. :)

......depending on which country, we're both right.

The 14 Eur that I spent was about 7 days ago.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
