De Atramentis Kermesin Red

Here is my new 2 page review of De Atramentis Kermesin Red ink. This is another fairly new color for De Atramentis and is a deep red color woth slight (to me) purplish highlights. It is well saturated, but is unfortunately prone to feathering except on some of the better papers. Moderate drying times may discourage left handed writers as well.

It should be noted that the paper used for the formal review section is a light natural in color but did not scan well.

Kermesin red is a beautiful color with very slight purplish tones. The ink is well saturated, btu doesn't show a great deal of shading with this finer nib. I have yet to try it in one of my broader nibbed pens but will update this review when I have done so.

Thanks for looking.

John

This is also lovely :) I have the Bordeaux Red, which I just received, so I won't be ordering this one ... at least not yet ;-)

Beautiful color. Thanks for showing it so well. So far my filtered biocided bottle of it is looking pristine. DeAt does have some gorgeous inks.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

+1 on the feathering. Worst ink I own for that. Luckily a very pretty ink that works okay on Rhodia or Clairfontaine. Only ink I've run into so far that feathers on Bagasse paper.

Thanks for the review John. It's really a lovely deep red and the slight purple tinge makes it different than reds like Diamine Oxblood, New Crimson and Monaco. It's not as purple as Syrah either, so it's not a burgundy. I had this colour in one of the Dollar calligraphy pens which wrote fairly wet and it shades amazingly. I'll be interested to see how it shades in a broader nib pen for you.

Real shame about the feathering. I LOVE reds!! This one looks very nice.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
