Trademark no. 15636, H S. Crocker & Co., "Blotting-Paper In Sheets And Pads", June 26, 1888, used since May 1888, is for the word "Electric" and a hand holding a bundle of lightning bolts. Trademark no. 15706, Thaddeus Davids Co., "Inks", July 24, 1888, used since June 4, 1888, is for the words "Electro Chemical" and an image of a lightning bolt. Trademark no. 33699, Charles W. McCrossan, "Preparation For Removing Ink Stains, &c.", Nov 7, 1899, used since July 1, 1899, is for the words "Magic Lightning" and a hand emerging from a cloud and holding a bottle from which a lightning bolt emerges and cleans a path through an ink stain. Actually, "Nepenthe" would make a great name for an ink eradicator. Trademark no. 15997, Joseph Parker & Son, "Blotting-Paper", Nov 13, 1888, used since 1869, is for the words "Commercial Blotting" and an image of a steamship. [ Sorry, Len. No relation to George S. ;~) ] Trademark no. 15998, Joseph Parker & Son, "Blotting-Paper", Nov 13, 1888, used since 1860, is for the words "Treasury Blotting". Trademark no. 21612, Eaton, Dikeman & Co., "Blotting-Paper", Aug 16, 1892, used since 1891, is for the word "Columbian". Trademark no. 21613, Eaton, Dikeman & Co., "Blotting-Paper", Aug 16, 1892, used since 1891, is for the word "Magnet". Trademark no. 35824, District Of Columbia Paper Mfg. Co., "Tinted Blotting-Paper", Jan 29, 1901, used since Jan 1, 1901, is for the word "Flora". Trademark no. 50159, Standard Paper Mfg. Co., "Blotting-Paper", Mar 6, 1906, used since July 1, 1902, is for the word "Imperial" enclosed in quotation marks. Trademark no. 60945, Standard Paper Mfg. Co., "Blotting-Paper", Feb 26, 1907, used since Sept 1, 1906, is for the word "Curi-Curl".

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.
