What's the best ORANGE ink?

Hopefully the picture shows up...

Probably not the kind of reply you are hoping for, but my favorite orange ink is a mix of 10 parts Blaze Orange to 1 part Poppy Red, both Diamine inks. Here is Blaze Orange and the mix for comparison. The scan shows the inks as a bit brighter than they are in real life (and the mix as being a bit redder than it is to my eye).

Noodler's V series Operation Overlord is a light orange.

Too light for my taste; very like Apache Sunset?

Seems similar to the scans I've seen but I don't own sunset.

Overlord mixes well with orange indien.

I have habanero & cayenne. Habanero is orange tending to red.

Cayenne is red with some orange. If you have seen the peppers

for which they are named, the colors are quite close.

private reserve orange crush; just like the soft drink, yummy

I have to disagree. PR Orange Crush is, in fact, red with the barest hint of orange. Get a real orange.

i agree that looks like the softdrink, but i dislike the burnt orange color and that it just won't dry!!!

if i use it in a very wet flex nib pen, then maybe i can get a decent shade.

i really like Noodlers Apache Sunset.

i would recommend JH Ambre d Birmanie, but it's more yellow than orange... that one is nice too.

if the scan is true to the color, than i like that Diamine Blaze Orange. it reminds me of the Apache Sunset (on my screen, anyways).

The idea of a mix inspired me, so I set out to create my own orange. This is 2 parts Diamine Sunshine Yellow and 1 part Noodler's Fox Red from the Eternal line. Note that the lighting isn't the best so the ink is slightly darker in the photo than it should be. For reference the paper is a Clairefontaine Basics journal.

The Writing Desk Orange = Diamine Orange. The Writing Desk sell it in huge TWD-branded bottles for those that get really excited by this thread :)

And, come to think of it I have an unopened 30 ml bottle of the stuff in my drawer. Let's hope I don't get that addicted to the stuff.

Here are old scans of a few orange inks that I like:

Note: The Montegrappa Bordeaux is not suppose to be orange; my bottle happens to be an aberrant.

If I can trust my computer screen (and I can't)I would say I like the Diamine Orange writings best.

Thanks you for this reply: very nice to see it.

One question: is "Diamine Blaze Orange" the same ink as the earlier mentioned "Diamine Orange" or is this an other kind?

It is not, as far as I know Diamine have 4 orange inks. Orange, Blaze Orange, Coral and Pumpkin.

To avoid addiction you can send the bottle to me :)

I'm rather new in the FP world but I'm hooked already. My favourite ink color is green.

But: I recently discovered orange ink. I used it with a Waterman Carene (large nib) on Rhodia (= yellow paper) and it surprised me!! Since then I'm hooked on orange. I first got the Herbin Orange Indien. A beautiful color. But then I got hold of a bottle Mont Blanc Mahatma Gandhi (only one bottle was available, does someone have some more for me??). This one I like even better for it rich color!

There isn't much orange ink around here (Holland, Europe). I could order through the internet but I don't like buying 'blind' and I can't spend much money on bottles of ink.

So, I would to like to ask you all what your experiences are with orange ink. And if you have a superb orange ink, can you please send me a sample?

Thank you,

Bert

Diamine orange and Diamine pumkin are excellent.

Have a look at my review under the session on ink tests

Noodler's dragon's napalm. I initially ordered it just because of the name and cool label. But it's quite nice on yellow legal pads!

My favorite is Apache Sunset. It shades from a red to a bright yellow (and everything in between), but it writes dryly. Operation Overlord Orange is a true and permanent orange which is very well behaved, but boring and not much shading. Orange crush and Habanero are just red. J. Herbin Ambre De Birmanie is a nice, golden amber shade, kind of an orange-light brown mix.

Another great orange, albeit a difficult/expensive one to come by is Majestic Orange from the Singapore editions.

It is a great, true (and bulletproof) orange.

(Makes Iroshizuku seem reasonable by comparison, though- at least from the US.)

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

I'm not much of one for orange ink usually, but a while back I ordered samples of Noodler's Apache Sunset and Dragon's Napalm from Pear Tree Pens. Both very nice colors all on their own, but the samples are really only good for one fill. Of course, there were leftovers. So, I mixed the two. Holy crud does it give you the most eye-popping orange ever! It has the Napalm intensity mixed with the shading (albeit more subtle) of the Sunset. I'll get a pic of the writing sample later. I call it Dragon's Sunset.

I like Caran d'Ache Saffron and Iroshizuku Yu-yake. If only they weren't so pricey. Orange Indien is nice but it doesn't have that shade-to-red quality as much as the other two have.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
