I just realized as I was inserting these images, that I didn't take one shot of this pen put together full of ink.

Darnit.

Well... here. https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/150774-fs-walityairmail-71jt/page__p__1500466__hl__wality__fromsearch__1entry1500466

Here are the filling instructions that I sent to Watch_art, there were compiled a while back. These might be useful for others who might want to get their ED pens started.

The rough edges on the threads bottom is the mould flash which reflects the low cost manufacturing of the pen. Some manufacturing debris might be there in the feeder channels, I don't disassemble and tune these pens before despatch, However I do check to my best ability that the tines are aligned, the feeder has no annular gap with the section bore(a major source of blobs) and that the nib slit is clear.

Best Regards,

Hari

yeah i gotta say i really like this thing. the kids at school have enjoyed this pen more than any of my others. it's HUGE. and it's awesome. and once i got the filling part down, it wrote like a dream. i've read all over about how fine nibs are kind of scratchy and what all, but this thing is so smooooth. i might get a smaller one later if Hari ever carries some more. and the rough edges were no big deal, just when i was washing it out, i noticed that some paper towel got stuck on it, so i cleaned it up. easy as you please.

Most of the nibs that I have seen on the Wality have a slight tine misalignment which leads to the scratchy experience, I balance the tines before despatch, if the nib is still not OK in my view, I replace the nib with an aftermarket upgrade that I have stocked up on. Some times the feeder is undersized, so when I discover that during the pre-dispatch check, I replace it. Some folks who received the upgraded nib (because the stock one was untunable) have told me that they liked it very much.

I am glad that the pen is well loved at your end.

Thanks for telling it as it is Watch_art. I have presently run out of the small ones and have just a couple of these large ones left.

Regards,

Hari

  • 10 months later...

This is a very patient and thorough review. I'm impressed. And, I bet I'll be trying to pick one of these up for myself.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
