I agree, one weird review, actually a great review...it's just the pen....as they say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and "each to his own". You could try this crowd for a J bar http://www.tryphon.it/catalogo.htm and either the nib has been pushed in a bit or the nib and feed removed (most likely) and not put back correctly.

I enjoyed reading your review. I like the color and lines on the body of the pen. That's great that it writes! I have a Sheaffer with an inlaid nib that I bought for $7.50 over 30 years ago and still use. Wonder what year this one was made?

:clap1: :clap1: :clap1: What a great review! :clap1: :clap1: :clap1:

Don't you just love it when a pen that looks like trash comes out writing like a dream? I guess that's one reason we end up so addicted. :P Thanks, watch_art, and enjoy that pen!

Sheaffer where a bit more upmarket than a simple J bar, I doubt you'll find on like that so a J bar is the next best option and should fit okay....although they can be fiddley to fit sometimes.

Excellent review, thanks.

And how can this be, because he is the Kwisatz Haderach.

Watch-Art,

Very nice review, we don't get a lot of handwritten ones lately, which is a tad bit ironic.

Have you considered taking the pen to a good pen-smith in your area to get the nib and the feed aligned properly. But other than the feed, it looks like a beautiful pen.

I might just put some sort of witty comment here.

Or I might just use a little dose of good ol' irony.

I found the review an absorbing read. Thanks for including the great pictures.

Whenever I see a pen or other everyday object that survives such a length of time yet still has potential for use, I always wonder just how "new" it can be made again. In this case, I imagine the barrel hole can be patched, the body polished, the nib reset on the feed, etc. It has the potential to be beautiful again, at least to me.

Cheers,

Joe

I really don't think there are too many nib fixers in my area. As far as I know there's really only one store in the state where I could even go buy a nice fountain pen. Do any of you in the Hot Springs, Ar area know anybody who could fix this up? What about sending it off? Don't know that I'm worried about getting the clip replaced, but having the hole patched and the feed/nib installed properly would be nice.

And thanks for the comments on my review. Really very nice.

Isn't the Southern Scribe located in your area? I have heard nothing but good things about him.

I see he has moved to Georgia, but still a good possible choice.

I have a red stripe with a similar crater and missing clip. It's also a nice writer, and i really don't need a clip 90% of the time.

i used a little dry heat and pulled and reset the feed and nib tonight. so easy. now the nib sticks out a tad bit farther and the feed doesn't show and bump when i write or draw. YAAYY!!!

edit: it's dry HEAT, not head. yikes.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
