If you like that then you'll love the Parker 51. That is really a knockoff of the Parker 51 which was first made in 1941. And the actual name for the filling mechanism is an aeromatic filler just for further notice. I hope you enjoy your pen!

One of the few and proud 16 year old FPN users.

My favorite fountain pens in my collection:

Parker 51 (cedar blue, vacumatic, 0.9mm Cursive Italic)

Waterman 52 (Black Chased Hard Rubber, SuperFlex .2mm to 2.0mm)

Conklin Crescent 25 (Black Chased Hard Rubber, Wetnoodle .3mm to 2.5mm)

Diamond P.P. Combo Pen (Orange, Flexible Fine, 1.1mm Graphite)

Pelikan M200 (Black, M400 Condor Nib)

Waterman Carene (Deluxe Blue, Medium)

Omas 360 (Black w/ Rhodium Trim, Medium)

yeah i've read that the hero is a knockoff of the 51, but i've never seen a parker face to face and i wanted to write this from the perspective of not really knowing anything about it or its history.

aerometric. right. i'll remember that. thanks.

Nice review, I have never tried a Parker 51 or any hero pen but they seem like good writers.

This is a great review of the Hero 616 ( I have never warmed to mine). The pictures, texts and detailed explanation, thank you.

I've finally "warmed" to my Hero 616s...took a while. But they do really write well (they write GREAT for a $5 pen!). Carried my 616 "Jumbo" all day yesterday (today is the Hero 329).

But don't look at the 616's construction materials as "cheap plastic." Rather, consider they are made from "semi-precious resins!" :ltcapd:

Nice review, thanks.

And how can this be, because he is the Kwisatz Haderach.

Thanks for the review! I bought a 10-pack of these a couple weeks ago and I've also found that the sweet spot is fairly small -- and varies from pen to pen. The one I'm using now I have to rotate to the right in order to get it to write.

I have a P51 and I have to agree with everyone else -- the P51 beats the Hero 616 hands down, but the 616 writes very well for its price.

I have a P51 Vac from 1945. I've never used a Hero 616, but I have to consider that I could buy five ten-packs of 616s, with shipping, for what I paid for my 51 Vac -- and I have several other cheap Chinese pens that manage to stay in my regular rotation (and just ordered several more after dropping one and breaking the nib this evening). I might have to buy some 616s, just to say I have 'em -- a ten pack is about the same price as a bottle of ink.

Does not always write loving messages.

Does not always foot up columns correctly.

Does not always sign big checks.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
