Noodler's China Expeditionary Force 1944 Blue

Hi guys! Here's a handwritten review of this ink. Normally I'm too shy to post a full review cause I think my handwriting sucks, but I figure since this is a Chinese exclusive I might as well show everything I've written. The color of my scan is a tad off. If you look at the swab... the color seems more accurate there. Maybe because the Clairefontaine and Rhodia lines are different colors and so my scanner does it differently... I don't know!. The scan makes this color look a little teal but when looking at it I don't really see teal. It really kinda looks like a chalky Ottoman Azure-ish color. I'll perform a bit of a torture test and show you the results tomorrow.

Oh and the drying time seems to be fast as mentioned. The ink might even be a little on the dry side, though I couldn't tell because the only pen that wasn't inked was that pen which... just isn't that good of a pen.

I haven't done any research into why this ink is named what it is. All I know is that the person who designed the label is someone I normally buy my Noodler's from. I think he did a good job with the label. Here's what he had to say about this ink (you can google translate it yourself).

Are you aware of any sources of this ink in the United States? If not, are there any retailers that stock it that can ship from Asia for a reasonable charge?

Kind regards,

I think it's a pretty new ink. It was introduced by this guy 2-3 weeks ago. I would have had this ink sooner but because of Spring Festival, almost everything has been shut down for 15 days... including the post office (with some exception).

Honestly I don't know how extensive the Noodler's brand is in China. I know this seller is based in Shanghai but I buy his ink off of Taobao (Similar to E-Bay). As far as I know, he's the only person who really supplies Noodler's in China. He sells ink for the standard price you'd buy it anywhere else; everyone else who sells the ink sells it for double the normal price so I'm guessing they buy it from him and then (stupidly) try to resell it for a higher price.

Here is one link on the auction site:

One can see the label clearly carries the symbol of Nationalist. Also the handwriting of Chiang Kai-She. I can not believe this ink can be sold in public inside mainland China now. The world have really changed a lot.

What shown in the picture is the Second China Expeditionary Force formed in 1944 under Chiang's Nationalist government. It is made of 9 divisions, about 160000 troops. What significant is these troops are all equipped and trained by US army. They were sent to Burma later and fought along with US army against Japan. The pictures shown are the ceremony held when both Chinese and US army met at Mong-Yu, which reopened the supply line from India to China.

The words on the label are a war slogan which called for people to join the Expeditionary force. It means:

One inch of land worths one inch of blood.

A hundred thousand young men can be a hundred thousand soldiers.

This is a long forgotten history.

Sorry that I don't have this ink. To me, it looks more like the Bad Kingfisher, with more blue tone it it. I hope I can get one someday though. B)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
