Quick Comparison of 6 Noodler's + Diamine Majestic Blue (+Watertest)

(Disclaimer: It's only a "Comparison of 5 Noodler's". I forgot that one color was in two pens :headsmack: )

A quick comparison of all the inks that are currently in my pens.

Diamine Majestic Blue: A very lovely dark blue/black with red reflections when dry. Easily my favorite dark blue.

Noodler's Midway Blue: More a "blue" turquoise than a "turquoise" blue.

Nooderl's Legal Lapis: A very dark green/black combination. I like the old fashioned look you get with it.

Noodler's Prussian Blue: Again, a turquoise blue, but more leaning into blue when compared to Midway Blue.

Noodler's Heart of Darkness: It's completely black, nothing more to say here ;)

Noodler's Baystate Blue: After all the anticipation i had after reading up on this one, i was kind of underwhelmed. It's darker than expected with a purple undertone which gets even more obvious after being "watertested".

For the watertest:

It was only a few seconds under a running tap. Majestic Blue and Clairefontaine Velouté is a bad combination, on standard paper Majestic Blue doesn't fade as bad as this (of course even then it's far from being water resistant).

Midway Blue though performs like this on cheap paper as well.

For the Bulletproof Inks: Legal Lapis, Prussian Blue and HoD essentially look as before. There's only very little ink being washed out at first, after that it stays the same even when being drowned for a long time.

Although again, on cheaper paper the ink looked even better after being washed. It just seems the ink can't bond as good with the slick Velouté paper (maybe that's common knowledge around here, but hey, i'm a bloody newbie :))

Baystate Blue on the other hand bleeds like hell at first, which simply might be a combination of a wet writer and the Clairefontaine Paper. But since i won't let it anywhere near the Safaris or the M605, i can't test this "thesis" right now, and so i can't use BSB as a true waterproof ink.

Hope this helps someone who's looking for the same colors out there :)

Underwhelmed?

PMS

Not being impressed? Is it bad english? (i'm not a native speaker....)

Or is it just that you can't believe someone doesn't like BSB in general? ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
