Here is a min review of Sailor Kiwaguro in a small Piccadilly journal with a close-up crop.

 

Ink Review

 

Pilot Custom 74 w/ F nib using Sailor Kiwaguro in small Piccadilly journal.

 

Some feathering along a few of the fibers.

No bleedthrough w/ this pen.

Well lubricated.

The lines on the page show through the ink.

 

Drying times are decent.

 

Smells a bit like a Sharpie but not nearly as strong.

Great ink that keeps my pen well-behaved on paper.

Aurora 88 nikargenta (Iroshizuku Kon-Peki);

so what's the final verdict - do you like kawa-guro or not?

I like it. It works well, but had some minor/interesting feathering on Piccadilly journal paper. If anything, a little feathering and no bleeding on Piccadilly paper means well-behaved ink.

 

I was testing out a convertor-full of Kiwaguro from a friend to try before I buy. If the B&M I usually go to gets the ink in stock at the price I'm hoping for, then I would probably buy it as my black. I may want to test out HoD first though.

I don't like it. I found it to be dull, dry and overpriced. Perfer MB black tbh.

I totally agree that it is overpriced. I refuse to pay more than $15 (or around for it), which is what I'm hoping to find it for in the near future. Besides price, I think it's as good as any other black (though not the same).

 

I actually prefer dry inks, so that's a plus for me. Perle Noire, on the other hand (and any other Herbin ink), is just too wet for me.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
