I am a wetshaver too. I thought it would save me money, but now I own DOZENS of razors and all of the assorted creams, soaps, brushes, blades, etc. I will have to live another sixty five years to use to use up my stash.

Nice kit. It's a neverending quest to find that product that will give you a closer shave, without a rash, or blood squirting all over your mirror. Slight exaggeration...

Thats a nice looking Fatboy in the first post. I have one as well, but prefer the Merkur Slant for a heavy growth. I tried Derby blades and could not get along with them. I use Feathers almost exclusively and some Dorko's at the moment and am very happy with them. My day to day razor is a Merkur Futur loaded with Feathers.

I am more partial to creams than soaps but really like the Kents/Mitchells Wool Fat. The scent is amazing but I find it hard to lather up well with it. My brush of choice is a Kent BK-4. I also really like the shave stick that I got from Rufus, but at the moment cannot recall what the maker is.

Cheers

Sean

Another wet shaver checking in, I have an Edwin Jagger Best Badger Brush (from Crabtree and Evelyn), a mid '60s Gillette Slim Adjustable and I love Derby Blades, they work really well with my beard. As for shaving soap and after shave, I prefer Proraso in the green tub and their aftershave balm.

Larry, where did you find the Gillette shaving cream in a tube? Were you able to find it locally, or did you get it online? I haven't been able to find it anywhere in Michigan.

I've a Burma Shave brush that I use every so often. Mornings are tight to really enjoy a wet shave so electric during the week and the weekend is for 'fun'.

Yea, its great. I used to have a Merkur Futur, but was a little hesitant to get the Vision since some people said it was too big. I'm glad I did.

I used to use Crabtree and Evelyn soap, but just found out about Art of Shaving shave cream. It gives me a much better shave.

Has anyone else used this, and found something they like even better?

I bought it on ebay from seller 'dridiot'. I haven't checked his store lately(Double Edge Shaving Place), but he used to have it in three scents. I believe they are made in Lebanon, the creams are excellent.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm just starting out, still using my Sensor Excel... I bought a cheap brush and some soap from one of the department stores to try it out. I love it, and have placed a good DE razor and a quality brush on my wish list for gift-giving opportunities.

I too use a Gillette Fatboy with Derby blades as my daily razor.

Love the wet shave experience. Started last year-- my arsenal is a 1956 Gillette SS-red tip with some Personna DE blades (Israel); EJ- best badger brush and some EJ creams.

Shaving has never been better. Sorry, no pic's.

Lots of great images! I'm a fairly new returnee to safety razors after way too long paying way too much for fancy multi-blades. I have had a smooth adjustment using Derby blades and Merkur HD (and decent no-name brush and soap).

I am determined NOT to become a collector of shaving tools (unlike fountain pens).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
