Lamy 2000 Broad Nib

Lamy 2000 Broad nib

I bought this new on ebay over the weekend. Arrived today with a bottle of ink for a very good price.

I decided to go with a broad nib even tho I'm aware that Lamy have a reputation for being broader than most.

Most of my pens are medium and i just fancied something broader.

First impressions of this pen are good. Its medium weight and well balanced. Its defintely understated and not at all showy

but has pleasant clean lines.

Its easy to hold in the hand the the little "ears" that are used to make the cap fit dont at all interfere with my grip.

The nib is very smooth and also very wet. Ive tried three inks in succession. First I tried Pelikan blue black

which being pelikan is taken as a drier ink. This ink roared out of the nib and was possibly a bit too much on the juicy side.

I then tried the Lamy black that came with it. This too was pretty wet but seemed to settle down after a page or two - perhaps

this would happen with all inks after a fill ?

Lastly I tried Waterman Havanna brown which was largely similar to the Lamy.

The piston works really smoothly and it seems to have a large capacity - it also flushes to clear better than most

other pens ive tried.

In conclusion I'm pretty happy with this pen. I got it for the right price and its certainly good for a change

(but i still love my Pelikans).

I like it! After what people have said about the Lamy 2000's width I was expecting something a lot wider than that for the broad. Glad to see it's something more reasonable. Nice handwriting too- it does well with the width. My HW just looks like rubbish with a broad. :P

Thanks for posting this! I've been curious about what a broad nib on a Lamy 2000 would be like. For some reason, I thought it would be more of a paintbrush. From what I can tell, though, it appears to be similar (perhaps slightly wider) than my Pelikan M805's broad. Your handwriting is very nice--it looks like it works well with a wide nib. I hope you enjoy the pen!

It just says not found.

I don't see the images inline, but if I right click and say "open image in new window/tab" it does. Does this work?

hmm never used picasaweb before but my conclusion is that it is very flaky

when i look at the first posting now the first image in it is not loading and the second is....

I think i will go back to photobucket or my own hosting domain - problem with using my own is that it fairly sucks up the band width if there are 100s of pageloads of a 1.5Mb jpg

any other (free) hosting sites anyone recommends - photobucket works well enough but is limited to smaller images....

That's better! We can see them now.

It's always good to have a writing sample, and there's some nice variation there.

Thanks for the review, and your patience with getting the images up.

Hi Declan

Thank you very much for your review.

I am very interested in buying a Lamy 2000. I like the broad nibs I have in my pens and this does not look wider than the waterman Exception broad- I was expecting even wider as I have a friend with a medium that is wider than the waterman.

Thanks with your persistence in posting the photos, i too was unableto open the previous offerings.

This looks a great purchase- well done.

These retail for about $300 australian, which is about $200 american at the moment. What would you consider to be a good price for picking this up on ebay?? Feel free to decline if too personal.

Cheers

Jeremy

That broad almost looks like a medium to me. In fact, I'm sure I've got M's that are wider than that one. I do love a good wet writer though. Either way, enjoy!

Hi, I am glad you liked your Lamy2000, I definitely love mine, I bought it much before I bought my Pelikans and my Lamys and Pelikans peacefully co-exist.

Hari

Thank you Declan

I saw these on I think the JBS1963 for mor than that, but found another thread that suggested isellpens.com that sell it for 100 US dollars too (postage heaps).

Have you tried the oblique nibs as these seem quite popular too?

Cheers

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
