Rohrer & Klingner Verdura

To clarify, the ink is NOT a LOT darker in person than it appears online, especially so of this sample. However, the online samples I saw of the ink before I bought it looked notably lighter than the ink looks coming from some of my nibs.

Both the paper for the review and the paper used in the comparison are Clairefontaine papers.

Thanks for looking!

Ann

Enjoyable review Ann, never heard of this Ink let alone seen a sample.

Do they have a big range? Expensive, relative to say PR, Noodlers?

Wish my writing was as clear as your's  HoHum, keep practicing

Excellent review, Ann! I love that you've used it in several nibs and also gave addition greens to compare it with - wonderful. I could read your and Tom's handwritng all day!

I should be getting my R & K inks today (fingers crossed) and will post something...hoping the Danitrio comes at the same time as I'd like to see their shading properties on the stub.

Thanks Ann. I always enjoy your reviews, just to see

the penmanship.

This ink seems to change shade A LOT. Were you dipping?

For example with the Conklin, the "that" below seems to be

quite a bit lighter. Do you know why this might be?

No, Randy, I wasn't dipping any pens used in the review itself. On the comparison, the wide horizontal sample lines were from a wide dip pen. I can't answer why shading takes place as it does. Perhaps with regard to the example you pointed out, I may have put the pen down and come back to write a bit later and the ink had to reach the nib again--but I'm really not sure if I did that, it's just a possibility.

Jim, maybe Ray would be willing to carry the ink or the Writing Desk may be able to get some for you.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Ann

Thanks for the kind words. The ink is still doing well in the pens, though is it showing even darker now in the Conklin.

Best, Ann

  • 3 years later...

Just an update, did a quick Google and found this from Michael Richter.

Nobody seems to sell it in the UK, but getting some from Germany would not be too difficult, except that my German is terrible :(

Hope this helps,

JIm,

In case someone else hasn't said this already, the R&K inks are all available from The Writing Desk in Bury St Edmund's and they do an EXCELLENT service. The price of these inks is good too.

By the way R&K are also helpful and have a good brochure with swatches that correspond well with the actual colours. Don't go by the laminate sheet but by the card sheet called 'Originalaufstriche'.

Tom

PS If your German is terrible, there's only one way to improve it... !

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
