De Atramentis Inks -- North American Source

Peter from Sherwood Park

Recommended Posts

Several fellow FPNs (notably including zquilts) have asked where I have been able to procure the De Atramentis inks that I have discussed on several different forums.

My secret supplier is

Stylus Fine Pens

10538 102 Avenue

Edmonton, Alberta T5J 3P3 Canada

Phone: (780) 421-0191

FAX: (780) 420-1401

Stylus also has a website -- stylusfinepens.com Grace (the store manager) believes that Stylus is the only Canadian outlet for De Atramentis, but she is unsure if any retail outlets exist in the U.S. They are willing to ship to the U.S.

You can e-mail Grace directly at info@stylusfinepens.com Perhaps if we get enough people from FPN to e-mail their interest to Grace, she will be able to get a much bigger order next time.

The brands of ink that Stylus carries are:

De Atramentis

Rohrer & Klingner

J. Herbin

Waterman

Lamy

Pelikan

Sailor

Pilot

Aurora

Sheaffer

Private Reserve

Noodler's

Diamine

Platinum

Standard disclosure: I have no financial interest in Stylus but am a satisfied customer.

Thanks! That's useful to know.

I have to add that Laywine's in Toronto carries at least some of the De Atramentis inks, and they say so on their web site. I am thinking about ordering some soon, so could you tell us the price from Stylus? And do you know the shipping charges to the U.S.?

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.--Thomas Paine, "The American Crisis", 1776

Thanks for the information Peter !!

  • 9 years later...

Just an update on the De Atramentis Document Ink. I've been looking to get some anywhere in Canada and I have had no luck. From what I can tell, Stylus and Laywines no longer have the 'Document' line of inks. Does anybody know anywhere else to get these inks ? Are they the only mixable waterproof/ archival fountain pen inks around ? The noodlers eternal inks I guess are also archival, but you can't mix them and the ability to mix whatever colour you want with the De Atramentis Document Inks is just amazing (I would think... if I could try it... lol)

Also, does anyone know how much duties/ import costs to get it from the 'States ? Say 3 bottles of Ink. $60 USD. How much will that cost after it comes through customs ? I'm guessing close to $100 after currency exchange and taxes but I'm really not sure.

Thanks.

It looks like Goulet Pens has the document line in stock. I live in the US, so I can't say what Canada shipping/duties would be. Hopefully someone else here will, or Goulet might be able to answer you.

Birmingham Pens http://www.birminghampens.com ) in Pittsburgh also sell this brand (inc, document) although they appear to be "sold out" of most at the moment. My experience with them has been very positive over several years.

P.S. no affiliation w/ them.

As I'm the one who resurrected this post (initially started in 2008) - thanks to all who answered. It seems since then there are a number of places to sell it in the US.

Anybody know of anywhere in Canada ? - I've looked at length and emailed numerous places so I doubt it lol. But if you've bought it recently in Canada, please let us know : )

Thanks.

Last I checked (month or so ago) Laywine's didn't carry them.

- side note - I'm not looking to buy any right now anymore - I went another direction -

But for anyone else who stumbles across this thread, or for the future - If anyone knows of anywhere in Canada who sells the De Atramentis Document Inks.

Thanks everyone.

Oh, I see. So De Atramentis makes their 'store brand' kind of ? I will have to check that out and see if they have the 'Document' series of inks. Thanks for the info! Awesome!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
