Just an addendum to my review...

Ive just bought a Pelikan M800 fine nib.

Tried PR Ebony Purple in it and its very different to my Pelikan M600 or Waterman ExpertII Or Lamy Safari

Its a much drier line that dries faster and it comes out less black and more purple (still pretty dark tho).

This just shows the significant diff pen and nib can make to ink colour.

I love PR Ebony Purple and use it in my main pen (Lamy Al-Star, M nib) - my only issue with it is that its waterfastness is basically zero. I have Noodler's Polar Black in my second pen for cheques and such.

Thanks -- that's useful information that I've been looking for!

My first purple! I got it for my LAMY 2000, but Bagasse paper is the only think I have that'll take the ASSAULT of ink that's coming out of my pen. It's WET and RICH and SMOOTH. Unfortunately bleeds through Moleskine. Even the Volants which can take some heavy inks.

I'll have to use it in something drier. Damn, my LAMY is so finicky. It needs dry as a bone inks.

Love PR EP but only in a fine nibbed pen, slightly watered down (tends to clog fines otherwise). It is my favourite purple, followed closely by Diamine Damson, which is somewhat more versatile. But you can't beat PR inks in general. I adore the colour range they have. Ebony Green is amazing, as is Avacado...

that looks beautiful. the ebony green by private reserve shows up a lot like that too, but a dark, beautiful green with some black depending on how wet your nib is.

My favorite purple and one of my favorite all around inks. No problem using this ink at work. Different pens will give you variations on the intense purple color.

Used this ink to darken up Pelikan Royal Blue and put that in the LAMY and we're good.

I put Ebony Purple in an Al-Star (Medium Nib) which is a drier writer than the 2000 and it's beautiful.

It was my purple day today (I also got Noodler's V-Mail North African Violet which is really really nice but brighter).

I have this in a fine vanishing point and it dries for me from 3-8 secs depending on the paper. A nice dark purple, good flow.

I wish that loading up this ink would transform my chicken scratch into the artwork that is your handwriting...

whooooooooooooooa!!!! that is sssssssssssssssssloooooooooooooooooow drying time!!!

beautiful ink, though... even as saturated as you say it is, i see some shading, but it could be the scan/monitor thing???!!!

It may be a scanner thing. I've never gotten much shading when I've used this ink. It's very hard to distinguish the ebony purple from black ink, even in a stub or broad nib. I want to love this ink, but I just can't; not enough or the purple comes through.

Add a few drops of distilled water into this extremely saturated ink until the purple starts to show. If you wish you can even go as far as to make a lilac colour out of it.

It's the perfect ink for dilution experiments. Have fun with it.

I love this ink too, it's my sensible ink as I'm not into using black at the moment. I'm tempted to try the green now. Thanks for the review. :cloud9:

Is Ebony Purple at all water-resistant?

...no, it turns out. It's probably the least water-resistant ink I've sampled. Really, deeply disappointing, as I want to use this color everywhere.

One of my musts, a serious purple that can be used for business purposes while maintaining my "purple" signature. It essentially is my "black" ink. I Also have EP cartridges, which I'll be appreciating more later in the month, when I travel.

For another, try Diamine Eclipse...it has a gold undertone!

+1. Not sure about the gold but the Eclipse definitely is an even darker and/or blacker critter.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
