My great-grandfather's desk, now mine, complete with built in inkwell just above the Triomphe pad. It's a spinet style, so it folds shut like an old-fashioned piano. The base where the paper is sitting pulls out to give a deeper writing surface.

What a wonderful thing to have! Very nice.

How many pens do I need, is not the question.

Well this is a picture of my desk in my home office, which is far prettier than the one in my works office.

It is a 'A.Cutler & Son' desk from the Desk Factory in Buffalo, New York, made in 1901. Not sure how it got to Cheshire in England but I loved it on first sight. The chair is around 1898.

On the left is a 1920s Bankers Lamp and on the right is my renovated telephone 1934 bakerlite 232 pyramid model (imagine, no caller ID, no ring back, no speed dial, no touch dial....fabulous

Pens are kept in this superb case. The calendar on the top is circa 1910

All-in-all I find it a pleasing place to write (or escape to!)

Beautiful desk and I LOVE the phone!!!

Thank you. I love listening to this particular phone ringing. My view is that if someone really needed me when I was at home, they would call me on my mobile.

For my wife's birthday last year, we went and perused jewelry stores, had lunch and coffee downtown, window shopped for a new Persian/Morrocan carpet, and eventually wandering into our favorite antique market… Damn! I bought another desk. In my defense though, this is the coolest desk I have ever touched!! No, really. It is a solid wood 1960 build of a English/Swedish cabinet desk – a modern interpretation of a Moore or Wooten folding wing desk. It unfolds and slides like an Optimus Prime Transformer! The minute I saw it, I felt all funny inside.

Now, to get my little bride to agree to this purchase, I had to promise to sell the Federalist secretary ('80s copy) and a 5-drawer quarter-sawn oak dresser that was in my office, but it was SOOO worth it. Additionally, when I went back a couple of days later to pick up the desk, I also brought home an additional 2’ section of library card catalog that completed my catalog cabinet - the book press pictured is now on top on the catalog. Sorry, the pictures were all snapped with my cell at the shop when I first got it and then at home recently. They do not do my desk any justice at all.

It's been a while since I dipped into this topic. Some very beautiful desks out there. Plus I can't get over USMCMom's ink shelves.

My desk was posted way back when I first moved to the Island. It's done three house moves since then and is now in its permanent home - the house we bought in November and are currently in the process of doing up. Whenever we're finished and decorated I'll have to post updated photos of my desk.

Not a chance. While I could do 40-70% of what I do from home in my robe and PJs, it is completely against company policy.

OK. Here's my desk, at least part of it. There is a secretary table that meets it at a right angle, as can be seen off left. I don't keep much of my stuff on the desk: I have two drawers for that. And I hate clutter.

You can see my Rosetta 4-pen leather case in front of the lamp and printer and my Sheaffer Student next to it. The printer has as a "dust cover" a tea towel map of western Scotland.

Yours looks like a good place to write Saintpaulia. Love the look of that 4-pen Rosetta case (I don't know this brand but it looks very much like a vintage 4-pen vintage Montblanc case I have).

Thanks for sharing your space.

My two desks at home couldn't be any more different from each other.

Gosh Mill_Burray, the term 'creative' certainly springs to mind upon seeing your desks (I note you are also into photography!). Thank you for sharing.

Great desk, and work space for a small area!

waterbrush in the case? mind if I inquire which one?

edited to add, Thanks +++ for the DC photos!

Thanks! I wish my other desk was as space efficient.

That's a Pentel Aquash - Large in the case. I usually keep two around. I fill one with diluted black ink and the other with water for use with my Derwent Inktense pencils. You may also like the Kuretake No. 13. It looks nicer and takes a converter.

Glad to share the photos!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
