Thank you so much for reviewing this color. I've been wondering about it for quite awhile. And thank you for the many other reviews you've recently posted!

Hah! Funny...I had written up (but not scanned) a mini-review of Amaranth with a line of Arabian Rose, too. The two colors are very, very close. Your pair looks more similar than mine. To me, Amaranth looks like Arabian Rose with the blue-tint removed.

I hadn't used my Arabian Rose until I got a letter from Roger and that was the ink he'd used. It immediately got me thinking how similar it is to the Amaranth. I think you've summed it up nicely, the Arabian Rose is like the Amaranth with a tinge more blue in it.

Just opened a new bottle of PR's Burgundy Mist and was disappointed in the color, as I expected a little more "red" in the "burgundy". Had a sample bottle of this Amaranth, so mixed a little half-n-half solution of PR Burgundy and Amaranth and now have an interesting color combined with a little shading.

Interesting look, just sorry I don't have a scanner so i can post a picture

OK, dizzypen is taking Diamine Amaranth off the want list, so I'll add it to my want-list! Really like this color! Thanks for the good review.

Ok, Amaranth is back on the wish list. Arabian Rose has been giving me the blues lately. I don't remember it being this thin and feathery, but it is driving me nuts!

Amaranth....well mine looks like... um...wine. Shading is more evenly distributed/gradated all along the letters. Nice color...different vibe with a cursive nib. Darkens a bit when dry on Claire.

I just bought both of these inks. I guess I'll open one when the other is empty! :headsmack:

Also bought the amaranth from Ian at the Northern show - I seem to remember you pointing it out Carrie. Used it today at a creative writing workshop as part of our towns book and arts festival. Flowing from an Etruria it seemed to help my flow of thought - ended up with a bit of blood shed though for my 'hero'...

My Arabian Rose looks a lot darker than the sample here. Of course, I'm also dispensing it from BB and 1.3 stubs as well.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
