Grayson Tighe, This guy is just strange!

Wow, I knew that some of this guy's work was getting a little "pornish", but this latest pen to come out, "Robot Love", is just sick. What's going on in this guys mind? Two robots going at it on a pen is really pushing the realms of art.....or am I just being a prude?

I don't think those images are Grayson originals - I remember seeing those paintings at the local library's sci-fi section as a kid.

Just because they are not his original art (and most of the pens are not.. he has an artist do the engraving) does not make them all that appropriate. There is one shown on his home page Grayson Tighe that makes this one look like a Disney picture...

There are limits.... and I think the one I reference above has passed them...

I am far from a prude, BUT!!!!

I'm not too keen on this Robot Love design, but I think for the most part Grayson Tighe's work is brilliant, especially when you consider he is only 18 years of age. His father Brain Tighe is one of the premier custom knifemakers in Canada and his son has already made a name for himself with his unique designs. Again, I don't care much for his Robot Love design, and I don't plan on owning any of his pens anytime soon, but I do appreciate his talent for unique designs and his skill at craftsmanship.

Erm... I quite like the caps! Actually, Robot Love puts me in mind of the robots in a pool of green glowy liquid in Duran Duran's Arena "movie" (the song was "Union of the Snake").

I'm thinking these pens are sort of Tighe's high end fp answer to those turn-upside-down-and-watch-her-clothes-disappear ballpoints. (lol, ok maybe not!)

His are pens for men who watch Spike TV and wear "Lynx" body spray because they believe the commercials. Bless 'em.

t!

Edit: RESULT!! I had the darnedest time posting this. Apparently, using the word "Lynx" without the quotation marks throws a monkey wrench into the mix.

ROFLMAO! :P Sorry, but the music and the image were just too much for me. Is it supposed to be that funny? From that perspective, it certainly is whimsical. I don't have any opinions on sexuality between robots...

I've heard him being 18 for a while now :D He must be in his mid-twenties now.

Yup... we noticed that in an internet browser thread... a very odd bug of IPB.

It seems that he is making pens for a particular section of the buying public. Low number losts of sculpting overlay. I'm not in that group so I'll withold my comment since I remember the last time I didn't getting flamed.

I think he's a great craftsman and artist. Perhaps his talent will be put to good use when he grows up.

I don't think he actually does the scupted overlays. I seem to remember a spanish gentleman did them.

well, the younger folks here will think i'm being ageist but i have to say that I think this answers the questions entirely. There's no debating that most young men are fascinated (okay, obsessed) with sexuality. It's just biology. How you channel it can show your maturity or lack thereof. IMO, young "artists" use this to their advantage a great deal. And of course, the more outlandish designs by Mr. Tighe get, the more attention he gets and probably, more customers.

I think it's ugly stuff. I think it's immature and I do tend to equate it with the pen T described. I recognize he has great skill and like Elaine feel that with maturity may come better design. even without the sexual images, i find the designs overdone.

I'm not offended though - just not impressed.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
