Mont Blanc Jules Verne

Hi all,

I got this pen about 6 month ago and here is what I think about the pen.

*****Appearance (5/5)********

The appearance of this pen is unique as far as MB design goes. The bright blue lacquer over guilloche of waves is really visible even under poor lighting. The pen is about 146 size with over size cap. The weight I would say it is on the heavy side for its size. One thing about this pen I wish MB would continue to do is that cap can be a holder for the pen. There is a curve build on the cap for you to put your pen when not writing so the pen would not roll all over your desk.

Here is the curve I am taking about,

*****Nib design ********

The nib engraving is eqaully impressive. The nib is Rhodium-plated 18k gold, I have not figure out what the image represent because it has been many years since I read 20.000 leagues under the sea. But is by far one of my favor nib from MB writer series. The other being the Kafka. Just as my other MB limited edition review I wish MB would gave a large 149 nib to its all Patron of the Art and Writer Series.

******Writing and Value ******

The most important part is how it handles when you write with it. I personally like heavy pen and is currently on the shopping spree for metal pens so I do not think this pen is too heavy for long writing. The pen came with MB's B nib, which is very smooth and that is the nib size I like the most. While is could be hard to use it on everyday writing if you use college rule note book but it is god send for writing your journal. This pen is mainly desk pen rarely leaves the house. If you plan to get one and plans to carry around with you I would suggest a pen pouch because I don't think the pen would stay in your front shirt pocket due to its weight.

Most of its weight is evenly distributed a long its metal barrel so it is not top heavy. However, if you post the pen than most of its weight will shift towards the rear.

Overall I think this is a Must Have if you are into collecting MB writer's edition.

Nice review and photos. I understand the curve in the side of the cap was intended to represent the faceplate from a hardhat diver's helmet, but hey if it works as a pen rest what could be wrong with that. You are right about the weight and it is heavy. Do you think it is heavier than the JP Morgan?

Thank you for the wonderful review and amazing pictures.

Just like all other MB WE this pen is breathtaking :puddle: .

I never knew about the groove in the cap for the pen and I think its a great idea.

Who knows maybe there will be a Jules Verne in my future too :cloud9:

Respect to all

If you find one under 800 pull the trigger. You will not regret it.

Great pen, I bought it because I was going to commemorate my start to serious pen collecting by buying whatever Writers LE was issued by MB in that year.

But when posted it is egregiously unbalanced and heavy. Writing with it is a good indication when arthritis in my hand will be kicking in.

This pen is widely copied in China and often sold through Singapore, the only difference I can see is the nib engraving.

Be very wary.

I only buy from trusted dealers and good friends who stockpile LEs when they come out and suffer buyer's remorse a few years later.

Thanks for your input. I have seen some copies of it but it is far from being close to the real pen.

Do you have a pic of the one that is close to the real thing ?

Thanks,

Andy

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
