Hey fellow pen junkies,

Let's say you have a dozen or so of your beauties lined up at the ready,

and you have alot of work to do.

Are they more of a help B) , or more of a distraction ?:

Not to mention ebay and FPN.

Regards,

Jeen

Truly admire the beauty of 'em but **need** to work (or they'll soon be up on the block 'cuz their owner is destitute!). ;)

Hi,

Well, you will understand when I say that I didn't have time to look at my new Cyanic Blue AT Cross ATX--I was too busy writing with it. I can comment on writing quality, but nothing else.

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

Please send vial orders and other messages to fpninkvials funny-round-mark-thing gmail strange-mark-thing com. My shop is open once again if you need help with your pen.

Will someone with the name of "Jay" who emailed me through the email system provide me an email address? There was no email address provided, so I can't write back.

Nah, they make writing more enjoyable and, particularly if the task is not very exciting, make it easier to get on with it due to the writing pleasure. On the other hand, some times one will call out to you and just demand to be stared at for a moment or two - which can be a nice break.

I agree with Southpaw... they encourage me to do the work, provided it's something that I can do with pen & paper, of course ;)

Well, at least it was 4 papers of different words. Everytime I want to test out my pen, I can't think of anything to write except "hello" or sign my name or write the pen's name out on paper. I've written a lot of "hello"s :)

Hey Gary and Betty,

I believe there is a scene in "The Shining" where the crazy character played by Jack Nicholson is supposed to be writing a novel, but his wife discovers to her horror that he has typed a huge stack of nonsense.

My wife had the same reaction to my test sheets.

Everytime I am testing out a nib, I always write "All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy..." and repeat over and over. And if my wife walks by, I would give her a big grin and say "Here's Johnny!" That will give her the creeps   because she think "The Shining" is the scariest movie ever! Yeah, I know, I am terrible... but, I can't help it.

Hi Jeen, and yes they can be a distraction. My wife can name several occassions when chores were interrupted by a strange and insistant calling from my pen box.....

My two Charles Hubert's came last night (wow. I ordered them Friday and had them Monday.) I will load pictures and thoughts on them later tonight. At any rate, I had a lull this afternoon at work and just spent the time breaking in the new pens. It was fun.

Nah, they're not really a distraction, but I go for function over form; no pocket jewelery to look at, no precious-resin bird splats to compulsively polish fingerprints from. :D At the worst, I stop and go "Blue or black ink? Sheaffer or... a different Sheaffer?".

I admire the creativity and inspiration of you all. When I'm testing a pen, or regrinding a nib, I either write my name, the alphabet, or write the word "doodle" over and over again. When I'm really being creative, I start writing homonyms... I pity the day the folks from Homeland Security raid my shack, I mean, um, apartment, and find pages covered in cryptic messages like "Poodle noodle strudel doodle"...

It's funny that I have about 6 really big pens in a case by my desk and don't really just gaze at them. I'm even to the point that I have one entirely uninked pen without any real desire to ink it up. Maybe I've become a jaded pen user!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
