Classifieds and Market Watch

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen fellow FPN-ers,

We have had many questions and requests regarding our Marketplace forum here, specifically regarding restructuring it. After a long period of deliberation, thinking, discussion, trial and error, we think we have come up with a division of (sub)forums which may help us cope more easily with the enormous amount of information currently posted by all of us in the Marketplace, and make some topics drown less in the flood of messages there. We have decided to replace the old Marketplace, which was definiteley creaking and squealing under its current load, by a new marketplace, called: Classifieds and Market Watch.

To quote from the forum heading:

Classifieds and Market Watch is a place for us to share anything we may have to offer or would like to be offered, be it services, pens, inks, parts, or what-have-you.

Note that this forum is divided into a few sections, allowing people to find things more easily. Please do try and categorize your messages according to the division made here, and post in the appropriate place. We will retain the right to move around topics, without notice, if we consider such topics to be more useful in other sections.

Of course, general rules and guidelines as for the whole board apply, as you can find in the FPN Guidelines (linked at the top of the page).

Furthermore, this area is NOT a discussion place, and neither does it serve for negative comments or feedback, and messages which are considered to contain either, will be removed. In case of a dispute, please try to resolve this exhaustively backchannel. Only if and when you can't agree to a workable solution between a seller, buyer and/or trader, contact the admins of this board, preferably via the Report button, which you can find underneath each message on the board here. This set of subforums is only a service to our members here, no more, no less.

In the Classifieds and Market Watch forum, you will find a bunch of (sub)forums. We've listed them all here, with their subtitles, and an additional explanation in a different colour when deemed appropriate. So, here they are:

For Sale: Pens, inks, etc.

When you are selling pens, inks, paper or paraphernalia, this is the place to announce it.

No parts or tools please, there is a special place for those.

Wanted To Buy: Pens, inks, etc.

Looking to acquire pens and related gear? Post those items here.

Pens, inks, paper or paraphernalia, of course :) .

Wanted To Trade: Pens, inks, etc.

You have a pen or other related item and want to exchange it with somebody else? Put up a message here.

Also pens, inks, paper or paraphernalia; as before, no repetiton of the same words over and over again :) .

Parts and tools

In case you need a part or tool for your pen project or have a part or tool you don't need anymore, do list it here, whether selling, buying or trading.

Parts for and of pens, tools for fixing, repairing, or improving pens, whether you are selling trading, or buying.

Professional Pen Services

Nib- and penmeister services, repair, calligraphy and writing services and lessons, pen retailer offers, and distributor and dealer pen, coupon and discount announcements may be posted or requested here.

This is a forum meant for pen professionals in the first place, where general announcements may be placed, about new pens, websites, discounts, services, training, education, etc., but where (non-)professionals also may inquire for such.

Everything else to sell, buy or trade

A new camera for shooting pens, a special cycle tyre, a coffee grinder, or a three-wheeled pram? Looking, buying, trading, selling? Post it here.

Everything that is non-pens, ink, paper or paraphernalia related is supposed to go here.

Market Watch

Share your information on good deals, special discounts, second hand gems you see in stores, good shops, good service, best places to buy, announcements of new pens, paper, inks and paraphernalia, or developments in our area(s) of (fountain pen) interest ....

Referrals to ebay auctions, etc., should also go here.

We hope that with this new addition to our Fountain Pen Network, we have managed to create a place for selling, buying and trading that makes it easier for all of us to find what we need or are looking for and offer what we would like to find a new place or owner for.

We will move all topics in the old Marketplace and the Attic to the relevant subforum, as long as they are not older than 90 days. Since this is a lengthy process, we will maintain the Marketplace untill all topics are moved. New posts in old topics will still be possible, but new topics can only be created in the new marketplace forums. So, during the time it takes to move everything across, you may still have to look in the old Marketplace forum a little longer, at least for a few days to come. When the move has been completed, we will disable the old MArketplace, and you will only need looking there where you'd expect to find what you are looking for, namely in the new Classifieds and Market Watch forums.

We hope you'll enjoy our new marketplace.

Warm regards,

The FPN Admin Team

Edit:

Note that the move has been completed now. The Marketplace has been emptied and is no longer visible. We hope we will all enjoy the new and improved marketplace: the Classifieds and Market Watch forums!

And don't be shy about making a donation to FPN, for providing us with this excellent forum , and this specific service, the Marketplace :D

There's a button in the top left of the page! Look for the brown lettering.

The reorg looks nice. Thanks Admins!

Sorry to nitpick, but shouldn't these subforums be "Want to Buy" and "Want to Trade"? The past tense only makes sense for archived posts.

Depends on whether you view "wanted" as a verb or an adjective. "These pens are wanted".

I find this a bit confusing. What if you want to sell OR trade a pen? Do you post in two forums or one?

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.--Thomas Paine, "The American Crisis", 1776

Wouldn't hurt to put it in the Sell category with a note that trades also accepted. Most traffic would be expected in the sell forum, and I seriously doubt that there's a problem with giving that option.

the reformat seems like a good idea, but I worry that few WTB's will be noticed nor fulfilled.

It would also be nice to have an option to read the messages from all the subcategories combined.

Click for Ink Scans!!

WTB: (Blemished OK)

CdA Dunas // Stipulas! (esp w/ Titanio nib) // Edison Pearl

I would double post the same ad. PITA, but that's the way it's designed.

FPN was one of the last "niche forums" I frequent that hadn't split up the "Marketplace" in this way. Excellent addition, very well done, and I've already noticed topics aren't getting buried as quickly.

Thank you!!

Thanks for your continued work.

I have lived with the reorganized Classifieds for about a week and I am accustomed to them already. The divisions make sense. I guess my only negative comment is the name. I liked the name "Marketplace" and it could still have the new divisions. "Classifieds" sounds cheap and newspaperish to me.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
