I'm Mr. Blue

Thesaurus Rex

Recommended Posts

A bout of insomnia two nights ago resulted in a massive cleaning and storing and resurrection of several pens. I now have six going and they're all full of different kinds of blue ink.

1. Blue Marbled Waterman Laureat, M, Levenger "Skies of Blue"

2. Blue Visconti Midi Van Gogh, F, "Skies of Blue"

3. Copper Esterbrook J, 2668 nib, PR American Blue

4. Green Marbled Waterman Kultur, F, Levenger Cobalt Blue

5. A blue Japanese Sailor clone, sweet MF nib, Waterman Blue Black

6. Vintage Sheaffer Craftsman (THANKS ELAINE B!!!!!), 33 nib, Waterman Blue Black

Who wants a snail letter in a symphony of blues?

Just making a quick stop...

I do hope that blue is just your preferred colour of ink and that you're feeling a little more colourful yourself...

You do know that it's just wrong not to put a warm brown or copper ink in that Esterbrook don't you?

Cheers!

Hey, Big K-

So far the Esterbrook hasn't complained. Didn't I tell you I bleed blue ink? It's all I use. It was *you* who got me hooked on Waterman Blue Black if I recall correctly.

And thanks for not giving me any (ink)e for including a vintage Sheaffer in this list.

;)

I appreciate the thought, but I am a blue ink man. Blue, blue, blue.

TRex, if you are feeling in a minority, please remember that I too am a full Blue man. I occasionally try other colours (trying to be flexible after all), but after Elaine named an Indigo Blue after me - that was it - Blue Rules...

(The formula is available - public domain, but it is *mine*...)

Best regards,

Gerry

  • 3 weeks later...

I am with all of you: blue is the way to go! :D

Of course this reminds me of a few songs with blue in them...

"Blues In The Night"

"Blue Midnight"

"Blue Rain"

"St. Louis Blues"

"Blue Interlude"

"Wabash Blues"

"Honolulu Blues"

"Blue Hawaii"

Of well enough of this, I am sure you get the idea, but some of these would make some interesting ink colors.

:D

Sincerely yours,

My favorite new 'blue' is the Aurora blue. Next in line is Parker quink blue, then Pelikan royal blue--Waterman BB also occupies my ink stained pocket!

I have a bottle of Parker Quink Blue, and I really like it a lot. I think the time comes to refill my Phileas I will wash it out and use the bottle of Quink instead. I also have bottle of Aurora Blue, and that has to be the smoothest ink brand I have ever used. Now I just wish Aurora would produce other colors that are equally free flowing. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
