Anyone out there in Parkerland ever seen tan/brown jewels before?

I never notice the color before.

Ken

Those look like amber jewels, rather than the more usual grey. I can't point you to a specific thread, but I know that the topic has come up.

I have a 1948 aero 51 pen that had an amber jewel. Unfortunately the jewel disintegerated while trying to remove it as the clip needed tightening . The amber jewel on my pen was not exactly the color shown here. It was a bit lighter shade. Ninetheless , it quite resembled these jewels. I was , however , fortunate enough to find another jenuine 51 cap jewel for my pen.

It's odd to see something other than black jewels on these pencils. Do you think they might be from 51 pencils?

That is the way I bought them. When or where I can not recall. I have done nothing to them other than a light cleaning and checking that the pencils are working. I will have to take these two to the Chicago Pen Show to obtain more information.

A thought occurred as I live near Janesville WI I may have picked them at a local auction in the past.

This may explain why the jewel is an uncommon color [ you know prototypes ] Who knows...

I know what you are saying and here is a photo of some of my P51 pencils for a comparison.

I say more of a solid color.http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f239/Jotteraddict62/001_zpskt8wper9.jpg

I am avidly seeking an amber 51 pen barrel jewel if anyone might have a spare or know of someone who does.

Best,

Daniel

I found out about the color of these jewels at the Chicago pen show. Black hard rubber that has discolored.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
