Ink Review: Diamine Sherwood Green

Recommended Posts

I have decided to review some of my inks. These aren't necessarily in any particular order.

This one is Diamine Sherwood Green. I have also reviewed Delamere Green separately, that is similar to Sherwood Green, but contains more blue.

  • Water test on the review form shows this isn't a waterproof ink.
  • Bearing in mind the paper I use is very smooth, and the nibs I used were a stub and a medium, this ink took 16-18 secs to dry
  • It flows reasonably wet, and lubricates the nib well.
  • It is currently available in 80ml glass bottles or 30ml plastic refill bottles.
  • Diamine sell it directly to end-users on their web-site.

I've enjoyed seeing the greens, thanks for sharing.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

That's a nice dark green.

That sums this ink up, "dark green". Another nice green ink. I like green inks; I just don't get too many chances to use them.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

As a huge fan of greens, I really like this one. I've finished a sample and need to order a bottle.

Thanks for the review!

So many inks, so little time...

Excellent review. This is my only green ink, but I did a lot of research before making the purchase and was not disappointed. A favorite.

On the basis of your review, I bought a pot for my wife - she likes it a lot, so thank you very much.

Thank you. I'm glad you liked it. That's the kind of thing that makes doing ink reviews worthwhile. :)

Thanks for the review. Much enjoyed reading it. I own this green and a couple of others (Pelikan, Omas) and it's pleasant to my eyes and well saturated (I like saturated colours). As already noted by other FPNer before, the only problem with green ink is that you don't get to use it often. For some reason, BTW, in many companies green is reserved for the CEO or similar. Also in some novels the bad and/or powerful guy writes in green. But, the ink is none the less, amazing. I will try to use it more often, for the joy it gives to me when the nib leaves behind such a beautifully coloured green trail.

Thank you for the great review! Sherwood Green looks like such a solid green ink! Now I need to get my sample out and play with it some more...

I just got a small bottle of this from the fine folks at Pen Chalet, and love it. I was hoping it would be a nice winter ink for me, and it fills that role wonderfully. The deep green makes me think of evergreens, and the dark red sheen combined with the green makes me think of berries on a holly bush. It's wonderfully smooth, too, making it even more of a joy to write with. I'll definitely have at least one pen inked with this all winter, and as soon as that 30ml bottle starts looking low, I'm absolutely going to replace it with one of the 80ml variety.

Thank you for your wonderful review.

I felt in love with sherwood green from the second I laid eyes on it.

It was a sample and I run to get a 80ml bottle because I knew it would be one of my favorites.

I truly enjoy Sherwood Green and your review is right on the spot. I've 2 colleagues in my office that have bought this ink the very same day they have seen it in one of my pens.

With Sherwood Green I've experienced some (not much) trouble in cleaning my pens. Cleaning a pen requires a little more time (a joy btw) than with other Diamine inks. Is this just me or did you share the same experience?

My two ten fingers on a typewriter computer keyboard have never connected with my brain heart.

My hand on a pen does. A fountain pen, of course.

OK, now I am puzzled. Many seem to like this ink. And my bottle of Diamine Sherwood Green is a nice color, but the ink behaves badly in my pens.

  • The ink will clog the pen (4 of 6 that I tried), if not used daily. It seems to be the pens with narrow ink channels.
  • In the pens that do not clog, the ink dye will dry/accumulate in the nib slit and require the slit to be flossed every few days.

It is a nice ink, but the maintenance is getting to me.

I am trying to find one of my pens that the ink will work reliably in.

AC, all my Pelikans and Platinums are a great match for Sherwood green, even in F. Good flow, no drying.

No hassle with flushing either.

I am a fan of Sherwood green, always at least one pen inked with it!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
