Two Other Kingsize Bulkfiller Prototypes…...

Hi fountain pen friends !

Attached a pictures of a new made Kingsize Bulkfiller prototype just finished in my shop.
I've used a beautiful striated green/black ebonite for this "streamline" prototype.
The cap, barrel, section, filling knob and cap top plug are all made in this material.
Note that on "standard" Kingsize Bulkfillers - whatever the material or color - the section, filling knob and cap top plug will be made in black.
Only on LE versions these elements will be made in the same material as the cap and body.
As you surely understand, Conid has to standardize to keep the prices reasonable !
Conid will always install a size 8 Bock screw-in nib unit on the Kingsize, alternative a Titanium or a14C gold nib
However w'eve got several requests on the possibility to install other nibs, some people mentioned they prefer installing their "favorite" nib.
So I've checked in how far a Montblanc 149 nib would fit, and found out installing an 149 nib is possible.
Meaning you can always install such a nib yourself if you want.
But be aware, Conid will not do so for you.
I expect the same will count for a Pelikan 1000 nib, still have to check though.
As always your comments, critique and thoughts are very welcome !
Regards, Francis

Beautiful Pen! Now I have to go online to find a 149 nib. Pulling one out of one of my 149s would be sacrilege.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Another gorgeous pen, Francis. The ebonite really seems to suit the Kingsize.

About the nib: is it as simple as friction-fitting the MB size-9 nib over the existing feed?

Too many pens; too little writing.

Thanks mongrelnomad !

Yes, as simple as friction fitting the MB nib in its housing.

However, given the MB149 nib is approximately 1.5mm longer, one needs to order a special adapted BOCK nib housing at CONID.

The axial nib depth stop ridge in the housing has to be made 1.5 mm deeper

Hello Francis,

Like always great job.

Very nice striated green, not easy to find. Mostly one finds mottled .

Can the MB nib be combined with the new Caiso system?

I have a spare nib after the exchange for a OBBB, think I am gonna recycle that nib.

Two of the finest looking pens I've ever seen. Really, REALLY impressed with what you have.

Hi Opooh,

Sorry I forgot to answer !

And yes, your MB149 nib can be installed on the CAISO.

Francis, do you think the green black material will be used in a production pen?

Hi Da Vinci;

Yes, Conid will surely use this material for their Kingsizes in the future.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
