Hi folks,

came across this picture surfing the bay, is that a genuine, older M600?

Never seen a nib like that before, but then I only know the modern Pelikans mostly.

Cheers, sirvival

Yep. This is a genuine nib of an Old Style M600 (built until 1997). I've got two of them in my collection which are great wet and responsive writers.

How dare you jump the que!!!!!

Stand in line.....you should have pulled a number when you came in the door.

There are folks waiting in line for that old 600 and their great nibs.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Sorry, Bo Bo. I didn't mean to offend. I am thinking about buying a M600 but currently don't have a job this summer so that probably won't be happening any time soon. I apologize if there is an etiquette that I'm not aware of.

I have the same problem....there I go find something, and my wallet has me in court for wallet abuse. :P

The original 600's were the super fancy 400's. Very good nib too. Chase the nib...in this case the old 600 has a much better nib than the new 600's.

I regret not buying one when I had a chance.

I was in the Pen of the Week in the mail Club or the Pen of the Month in the mail Club.

Do not, repeat do not join those clubs.

You get a much better pen, in The Pen of the Quarter in the mail Club.

These old M600 nibs are kind of neat. I like the way the logo is stylized on these a touch more than the newer nibs. The two older M600 nibs that I have are similar and bare the PF marking.

Here is a side by side; Left is the modern M600 nib. Right is the M600 nib from 1990-1997.

They also made one with a B|N mark which is even better than the ones with the PF mark. At least that is what I have found with my two OM nibs.

The B|N has more line variation and spring than the PF nib.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
