Ultra-bonus points for threading the butt of the barrel for secure posting - nicely done!

Nice design, Carl!

Thanks :)

I figured since the cap is actually meant to lend to the use of the pen by adding length, I wanted it to be threaded. Just a press on posting wouldn't have been quite as secure as I'd like.

But, you see, that is the great part: that you realized it!

A couple of years ago, I went in on a group buy for an FPN LE pen from Stipula, and I opted for the Passaporto. Great, tiny little pen, and the cap - which absolutely must be posted - threads on the end of the barrel. A year or two later, I saw one in a complimentary color pop up on eBay and picked it up.

Guess what? No threads.

Turns out that the FPN model was made to spec, and one of the things asked for was the threads. This other, newer version only worked for a short time, until the cap and barrel loosened up enough that it wouldn't stay posted. The *only* way to make it work was a piece of clear tape to add dimension to the end of the barrel, and that... well, that sucks.

So good on you for making it right the first time.

That's great information actually. Knowing what problems exist leads to improved design options. I typically wont' thread my full sized pens for posting because the cap isn't meant to be structural at that point.

I'd dearly love to see it in a ringtop. They're actually useful since I don't wear shits with pockets.

I would like one of those... :)

sidthecat, when you say ring top do you mean a simple trim band with no clip? That can be arranged.

GordonOZ, drop me a PM and I can work with you on material selection and any other customization you might want to make one uniquely yours.

Exactly, Carl. It surprises me how thoroughly they've gone out of fashion, except for that tendency they have to unscrew themselves and disappear.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
