Not really a Dollar pen. I'll let someone else explain it or not. Had I seen the auction...

That's up there, but I think we saw one go for $315 not too long ago. Still, for $304, you'd think that they would fix the clip.

That is really a very unusual pen. The only Visumaster type pens that I am aware of came in the early Transitional style pens with the Ribbed jewel. I have never seen a Visumaster style pen in a Dollar pen. Not sure how rare it is, but certainly unusual.

That is truly deserving of the R word. Wish I would have seen it. I have one in red, this is the only other one I have ever seen.

If this is only the 2nd one Brian has seen, it seems to me the winning bidder made a pretty good deal.

Imagine if we both had seen it.

Scary.

Who nabbed it?

One who was most elated that you both didn't see it. Thought I'd have to pay more than twice as much, so I threw the whole bank account (4 figures) at it just to be sure. A nice bit of serendipity. Stopped my grumbling to self about your recent pinstripe score, FB :)

So where would a Dollar Pen masquerading as a VM fit? My guess would be maybe mid-1940 as a first try or test run using the new VM plastic stock ... or were they made to sell along with the VMs?.

Hey, only three more and we'll have found a color set, eh?

Best Regards
Paul

Paul, Brian or Todd getting this pen.

All is right in the world. It's a nice way to start the day.

Congrats Paul.

Thanks, Bruce. I'll try to get back here and show it off after I detail and straighten the clip.

I was in up until $45 (and thought that was a lock) but only because Richard Binder's site lists it as a very early Fern Green Dollar Pen. I do not think it's a Visumaster, but I'm not the expert either. I was only going by Richard's site.

That last 10 seconds was like watching starving wolves fighting over a pork chop.

Good for you.

I'm glad it went to a good home.

Thank you. It seems happy to be among its younger cousins.

And a delicious chop it is. Good gravy, too. :puddle:

As promised, here are some pics, after a nice bath, new sac, and a bit of orthopedic adjustment on the clip (not perfect, but it'll do for now). Also a family reunion ....

For reference, its capped length is 4 3/4 in., compared to 4 15/16 for the VM3, and 5 1/16 for the VM1.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
