Hello guys! I have found this Wahl-Eversharp for $65. Please look at the pictures and tell me:
Is this nib a flexible one?

If yes, how flexible? If not, please tell me and don't bother with the other question.

Is the pen worth its price?

What model is it? Seller says it's a 12-sided pen.

It has had a new rubber sack installed! I really like the marbled brown/gold look! According to the seller, the cap had been damaged and repaired. Check last picture :)

Hello:

It looks a Eversharp Doric Oversize. The cap is damaged, but too the clip is different to the original model, I think.

The mine has a signature nib, rigid and smooth, but that can wear a flexible nib, I can't see it.

Regards.

Thank you very much! I just checked up on it and I think you are right with regards to the clip. Yes the cap is damaged - I noticed that - but I don't think I can expect a flawless pen at that price

I am now contacting the seller with regards to the nib. I don't want it if it's a rigid nib. Thanks.

Yes, this is a Doric. Its a bit hard to tell the size, but the color is Morocco (burgundy marble). The parts (clip, nib, section and feed, and barrel) alone are worth the price.

I can't read the marking on the nib. If it is fllexible, it will be marked Flexible. Nibs marked Signature nib are semi-flexible, not as flexible as one marked Flexible, but there is moderate flex. Wahl called its stiff nibs "Manifold" to indicate they were designed to be used with several layers of carbon paper. From the shape of the nib it looks like a Flexible.

if the pen is coming out of Scandinavia, it is possible the clip is correct. I have seen many Doric caps from Denmark and Sweden with the earlier clip marked Wahl Eversharp, including caps that were in mint condition. Indeed, I once was given a lot of about 30 caps of all sizes form a collector friend from Sweden, and all had the cllp shown in the photo. In my opinion, Wahl may have shipped Dorics without clips to Benzon, their Danish importer, which installed the earlier style clips from their repair stock. In the early 1930s, Denmark was running out of foreign currency reserves, and they were limiting the import of foreign products. This may have been an attempt to avoid those limits. We do know that Denmark later prohibited the importation of completed pens, which led Christian Olson (Parker importer), Benzon (Wahl importer), and Montblanc to open factories in Denmark (Olson=Penol, Benzon=Benco, Big Ben, Big Brother, Montblanc=Danish Montblancs).

Thank you, sir, for your thorough explanation! This pen is indeed located in Denmark and your explanation seems quite plausible. I have now written to the seller that I'll purchase the pen if the nib is marked as "FLEXIBLE". Since you said that shape of the nib indicates that it's a flexible nib and I think I can read "... EX..." we're well on the way.

Thank you once again!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
