Pilot Prera -- Is There An Alternative Large Nib Available?

I got the Prera and am just delighted with it, except for the nib. It is a medium nib but I just can't get used to it. I am used to having broad or even BB nibs. Before selling it or trading it, (I just bought it), I wanted to see if anyone knows of a broad nib that I could easily swap out for this one?

Plumix italic nib will fit, as will the B (stub) from a 78G. I don't have experience with the Plumix nib, but I believe it's the same width as the 78G B (stub).

If there's something else, I'd be interested to know so I could play around with it in my Metro.

So many inks, so little time...

I have tried all of the prera, plumix, 78G, metro, and kakuno. They all use the same nib so yes, they are all perfectly interchangeable with eachother.

Plumix comes with a very nice italic nib which I've put on all of my pilots. Plumix nib is the same as a "B" nib on a 78G. And the "BB" nib on a 78G is even wider. I use it for practicing my gothic script. Its too wide for everyday use.

The plumices can be had for super cheap on amazon (especially if you get the 12-pack)

The 78G with a BB nib is probably available from Teri at peyton street pens. I got mine from there.

(No affiliation with either, just a happy customer )

The Plumix is almost always sold with an M nib, so not the same as any of the 78g nibs, as all the Plumix nibs are italic.

If you look hard enough, however, you can find B and BB (as well as F and EF).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
