I am specifically interested in Tokyo stores that might have Sailor specialty nib pens available off the shelf (not custom orders). I'll be in Tokyo this fall, so I'd really appreciate info on this if you know of such stores. Thanks.

I recently contacted Nakaya to ask in which Tokyo's stores they sell Nakayas.

They answered and mentioned Itoya and department store:

**Mitsukoshi Dep. at Nihonbashi

http://www.mitsukoshi.co.jp/store/1010/fcs/english.html**Mitsukoshi Dep. at Nihonbashi

Do you guys know any other place where to find Nakayas in Tokyo? I will be in Tokyo in two weeks and I am also compiling a big list scrapping and consolidating old posts and Internet resources, I will share it here as soon as it is presentable.

By the way, you guys mentioned a Pilot 845 Midori (green urushi) issued on occasion of the Marunzen pen show back in March. Anyone has an idea if there is any left and which store could carry it? Marunzen? Which one? Thanks!

Thank you for the lead on Shosaikan.

I found this description of Shosaikan from http://estilofilos.blogspot.com/p/tokyo-pen-shops.html

Shosaikan

http://www.shosaikan.co.jp/

Probably, the most beautiful pen shop in the world. And that makes a real experience to visit and, eventually, to buy a pen in here. Importers of Noodler's inks in Japan.

Really the "most beautiful pen shop in the world"?

Is this Bung Box?

http://www.inhamamatsu.com/shopping/stationery/bung-box.php

Located 1.5 hour via high speed train from Tokyo? Worth the trip?

opps my bad it seems they are located in shizuoka prefecture... is so... I would just suggest check out their site and see if you can dig up the 845 midori urushi else check maruzen IF THEY STILL HAVE IT, after all it is a limited edition pen to 50 pens only...

I know this is very ambitious of me... but I do not wish to make another mega thread... <_< >_> aall things considering I made the sailor ink thread that has become a very heug thread

Algester, thank you for all the info in this thread -- very helpful! With limited time for pen shopping during my upcoming trip to Tokyo, I think I will focus on these four stores (based on info here and suggestions from friends) -- unless I hear that another store is worth more attention?

Sekaido (Shinjuku)

Kingdom Note (Shinjuku)

Itoya (Ginza)

Shosaikan (Ginza)

How about Kyoto? Does anyone have suggestions for pen, stationery and art supply shopping there?

- Tina

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
