Kutsuwa Fountain Pen Help

Hi everyone. I have a pen which is 40 years old. My uncle brought pen from the Iraq 40 years ago. I did not found any similar fountain pen on internet. Maybe is unique. Did anyone heard for this brand? What is value? On the surface of the pencil is written that is produced in Japan and brand name KUTSUWA. It is in perfect shape with carved surface slightly.

Thanks for answer.

Kutsuwa exist even today. It is company from Japan which made pencils and school stuffs. The fountain pen is older more than 40 years and is perfect condition. That quality is not for copies and for Chinese fountain pens. I will make new and better photos of fountain pen.

Welcome to the fpn. Although it does look a lot like the Chinese pens from the 70, 80, and 90s, it is very possible that it is Japanese. It all depends on how it writes and what they quality is like. I'd you say the company is still around in Japan them it probably is from Japan.

Not unique. Not very valuable. Sorry!

Many small or house brands of pens were made over the years. Yours is one.

Congratulations! If it looks okay and writes well, you found a winner.

Please enjoy.

BTEWyou said KUTSUWA is written on the pencil. I assume you mean pen.

Hi Ivan

Hallo from Singapore ! I just saw this post and thought I'd add in a comment.

Kutsuwa is a well known Japanese company as you mention and they made great stationery products, mostly for school- staplers, pencils, sharpeners, pens, pencil boxes et al in past years. Their magnetic closing pencil boxes are quite cool actually, with lovely images of spaceships, aliens and I think if you ever find any in good condition, it may be valuable.

I have a fp and stapler from this company. The pen is quite well made and its finish is well executed. Its a competent, if not a spectacular writer. As their pens are fairly scarce around compared to other Jp biggies, I would think its worth keeping in your collection simply for its rarity, since probably now its manufacturing would have shifted to other Asian countries from Jp if its at all available.

Haven't seen their products recently in Sg though I saw some paper products, so perhaps they exited this line of business now.

Will find my fp and post pics :).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
