I thought I'd pass this on to fellow fountain pen enhusiasts in NYC. I found a new old stock, now discontinued piston-filler German Reform Calligraphy pen at WC Art & Drafting Supply at 351 Jay St. in Brooklyn back in January.

 

Stopped in there the other day just to poke around and noticed they had 2 Pelikan 120's, 2 Shaeffer Targa's which I have a feeling are now discontinued, and 2 more Shaeffer pens which I've never seen before; they look like fancier versions of the Shaeffer No Nonsense pens. Almost bought one of those just for their rarity ( but I sure don't need another pen, and I'm trying not to be a collector; in fact I'm selling a couple of pens to save for one pretty expensive one ).

 

So, if you're a Pelikan or Shaeffer person, you might want to pop in there just to check the pens out.

Good to know there's another spot to check out in the city for pens. I've tried looking around antique stores or thrift shops and find the prices insane for what frequently appear to be unrestored pens.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
