Converter For Starwalker

I'm asking if anyone has had any success with a converter in their StarWalker? I read these forums a week or so ago and purchased a Monteverde mini converter. It does not have a tight seal, and doesn't stay in place. I tried filing down the top of the converter, so it better matched the heightof the cartridges, but it still doesn't fit. A related question would be, what keeps a cartridge or converter in place? I think it is the internal diameter of the cartridge top?

Graf von Faber Castell works fine also. Note, NOT the normal Faber Castell; it does not fit.

I've used both Faber-Castell and Visconti Converters in mine for several years and they work perfectly.

I use a Pelikcan C499 from Jetpens and it seems to work. What bugs me is that because the nib section is so short, the top of the converter sticks out a bit but the rubber section of the converter seems to hold itself in place without any leaks, so I guess that's okay.

Not sure if any of the other converters suggested here have the same problem?

Current Wishlist:

Visconti, Visconti, and...more Visconti! (And some ST Duponts too). (Ok fine, getting on the Omas and Montblanc trains now too. Toot toot.) (And maybe on the Montegrappa one too, but only for the Miyas.)

This one has worked like a champ for me recently. No affiliation with the Goulet's. Just a very happy customer.

I'm using a Schmidt K5 as well. It's a nice, solid fit. Before that I used a Hero twist converter -- not quite as secure, but it worked.

I have a first generation Starwalker and most of the converters listed here do not fit (unsurprising, as they're mostly Schmidt converters). They are either too wide to fit inside the section, or else unable to slot over the nipple. I've tried the converters from Faber-Castell, Graf von Faber-Castell, Cartier, and S.T. Dupont. So far the only converter that works is one that's not supposed to: Montblanc's own threaded converter for the Classique/Chopin. As far as I know it's the only converter that Montblanc sells, but the part number is 105181.

The Schmidt converter's sleeve also shows, but the fit is quite secure.

The picture I posted is from my cool blue. I don't think the cool blue model was 1st generation starwalker though.

No, the cool blue was not a first gen. I have what is now called the resin with platinum trim.

Thanks, not sure why it's such a pain then. Anyway, have ordered some cartridges in burgundy red and midnight blue, pen will become my traveller for a bit until I find a way ahead (like buying a 146!)

  • 4 months later...

I have been using a Visconti Converter that came out of a Rembrandt. Have used it like this for years with no issues or leakage.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
