Could You Believe In This? A Brand New Bordeaux 147!

So, yesterday, my wife asked a trip to a near mall. After hours looking for her exactly type of pants, bored as hell, I spoted a Montblanc retailer's shining store.

I asked the attendant a Legrand Traveller. I'm a brazillian, living in Rio, and around here there's few 147s, even in the MB boutique the attendants didn't know about it. In two different calls made to MB in Brazil, the attendants didn't everr heard about it, and transferred the call to the supervisor, who told me that it will be difficult to find one here.

So the "shinning attendant" in the "shinning store" in that mall gave me a big smile and gave me this little black box:

He told me that this particular pen was found in the lastest stock's audit. "It's only one available. But I'm shure I can give you a big discount, if you keep it!" He told me with a big smile...

In a brief look at the box, my jaw braked...

It was a real Bordeaux 147 box, with 1995 printed in the label. Wow.

Opening the box, even the wrap papper is still there, have a look:

The leather case is absolutely new, after 20 years, it stil look like new! Shinny and with that feel in touch we are acostumed in MB leather products.

And the pen, ahh the pen. That shinny bordeaux resin stood very well those years.

The nib performance is wonderful, as you can expect from a modern 147.

I didn't use the golden cartridges. They look nice, but I don't believe that the ink is still usable. Take a look the cartridge holder with new Royal Blue.

And the oddest detail, take a look in the Service Guide, with the date printed "1995", and the date of purchase "03/21/2015" :D :D :D

Congratulations! Wonderful find and a wonderful pen. I had a similar experience in Hungary a couple of years ago where I stumbled onto a new Bordeaux 147 with box, case and papers at a small stationary shop. And the price was a true deal. I bought it and never looked back!

I just forgot to tell you the prie paid. The manager gave me a 55% discount, on the tables price. I've paid about U$ 300.

Que sorte!!! :)

Great pen, great story, glad you are going to use it.

Crazy what kinds of things will just float around in inventory for years. Not exactly the same, but I just bought a limited edition watch that was sitting in a back room for 4 or 5 years after they just found it again and put it out for sale. It totally jumped out of the case for me. Still, I'd rather be telling your story as my own. :)

I am curious how you would clean out the 147??? I have a similar pen, not the 147, and the depth of the nipple to the feed has got me worried on how I would be able to flush the pen.

Mb made special cleaning cartridges that were quite long and they fitted down into the barrel and pushed water through and out of the nib. Sadly I think they have stopped making them now as I haven't been able to get any for ages. I might be wrong, it might just be a UK shortage.

Fortunately, I never through mine away even when they were empty, so they can be refilled with a syringe and reused.

To flush nib/feed/sections well, buy one of these, cut the nipple shorter until the section slips in firmly, and force water (or 90%water/10%ammonia/drop of detergent solution) through the section.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
