The only nib grinder I saw was Mike Masuyama. I know Pendleton took the year off, this year. There were a couple other folks doing some repairs there (Pendamonium maybe), but I'm not sure if they were also grinding!

Thank you MarneM. I have nibs worked on by Mike. I think we will be going to the show on Sunday.

Oh my goodness! I've never seen this show so packed! More vendors and way more pen fanatics! Aisles were packed! Loved it!!

I had to work yesterday. So I missed out on inks I wanted from Vanness. I did get my handout as a newbie with all the care tips I need to know and follow by Ms. Smith. Next year I'm taking off work for the first day. I do it for the Christmas Village too. I need help. Save me from myself.

First off, This was my first pen show and it was awesome! I loved every minute of it. I was quite overwhelmed and have subsequently regretted missing out on some inks. Does anyone know the name of the booth that was in the corner ( I don't remember which room) that had little bottles of J. Herbin and these really cool Akkerman ink bottles? I really appreciate it! Thanks!!!

My first show too! I believe you're speaking of the ladies from Vanness. They were in the left hand back corner of the 2nd maybe 3rd room... I think 2nd room.

Yes! That was them! Thanks!! I was too overwhelmed by all the pens to truly appreciate all the wonderful inks. I look forward to next year when I can handle myself better :P

I've heard really good reviews about the show this year. I'm so glad! I would like it to continue to grow, and for the vendors to do well. I loved that there were at least two kickstarter groups there. It feels good to be able to support small businesses!

This was also my first show, and I really enjoyed it! And, I've got a shout-out to Monteverde. I bought a Prima after reading a review in "Well-Appointed Pen" but I never could get it to work well, despite changing ink, using a flushing compound, etc. So I brought it hoping to have it looked it, but the rep just gave me a new Prima without ever trying mine.

Enjoined meeting Brian and Lisa Anderson and the guys from Nock, and those very nice ladies from Vaness. But just wish Pen Addict, Well-Appointed Desk, Gentleman Stationer, and the other bloggers had a room where we could have met them and chatted them up; I was hoping to thank them personally for all the time they spend informing us about pens, paper, and ink.

Glad it went well. I live a couple of hours away and have gone in past years but didn't this year due to ... well, lots of reasons. Maybe next year.

pre order next year. It was so hard to decide what to take; we underestimated the ink. In total we took 600 bottles from 12 brands, I guess I will need 1200 bottles for DC! As an ink fanatic I was supersad that I miscalculated on AkKerman and Bungubox. the only help I provide is to add more ink...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
