Authorized Mb Sellers On E-Bay?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if there are any authorized (or at least trusted) Montblanc sellers on e-bay? I'd like to eventually acquire a 146, and I think e-bay is going to be my best bet for doing that, but I'm overly paranoid about the prospect of ending up with a counterfeit. Any tips on reliable sellers/dealers?

Buy from the classifieds here. It will be a much better experience. If it costs a few dollars more, it will be made up in confidence of getting a good pen from someone who likes pens.

I have purchased all of my Montblanc 146's here on the forum. All at equal or better prices than ebay, and each pen has been exactly as described and wrote like a dream, unless described otherwise. I bought one that needed some nib adjustment. The condition of all but one have been near mint, and it was in far better shape when it arrived than was described in the advert. Each transaction has been drama and stress free, and the last seller I dealt with shipped a platinum 146 Legrand before I had even paid him. That my friend is unheard of.

In fact, I've found a large number of my total pens here. What I haven't bought here I've learned what to look and lookout for from the fine people here. Check daily and have a touch of patience. The pen you seek will show up here.

I enjoy MB 146 pens, Sailor, Pilot and Platinum pens as well. I have a strong attraction to dark red and muted green ink, colors I dislike for everything but FP ink. I also enjoy practicing my handwriting and attempting to improve it. I love the feel of quality paper under a gold nib.

I'm almost positive such a thing doesn't exist and would be against Montblanc policy. Montblanc doesn't allow Internet only sellers; you must have a B&M presence. Besides, eBay is cheap. The whole point of authorized dealers is that they aren't cheap, and afford a level of quality. Which is the antithesis of eBay.

You've got some good advice above; just to add to this, my strategy is always to start local (i.e., FPN classifieds) and use eBay to do opportunistic buys of 2nd hand pens, knowing that the pens are not being sold by authorized dealers. That said, there are a few sellers that I've dealt with who I've dealt with >1 time and generally would prefer doing business with:

- erfobay (AKA Monica; there is a few threads on her but I've found her generally trustworthy although shipping is expensive)

- AHK2010 (used to be a great source of vintage MB but now seems to be more Pelikan)

- Pen Pirate Hamburg (have bought from several times; decent selection, well described with good pictures)

HTH!

No authorized MB dealers in ebay and very few trusted. Recommend looking at the Classifieds here in FPN.

I know some other members do the same; if I am advertising a pen both here and on Ebay then the asking price on FPN is generally at least 10% less than that on Ebay as there are no selling fees here.

I've bought pens from FPN members and always been extremely happy ... most recently from Slippery When Wet, and keep on meaning to do a short review on it

You can also pick up some excellent buys at Local Auctions, but it's always a good idea to inspect the pen, unless you absolutely trust the Auctioneers with their catalogue description and photography. I've generally been very lucky, only ever bought a couple of lemons.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I figured there couldn't be any "official" Montblanc dealers on e-bay, but I was hoping to get some names of trusted e-bay sellers specializing in MB pens (thanks, JLS1). I will most definitely continue to comb the classifieds here on FPN--I've already had a few really good transactions with members here. :)

I'd rather buy from Ebay.

There are lots of good ebay sellers and if you do your research you should not have any problems. If you do then you will be covered, which I'm not sure you are buying from an online forum.

My Collection: Montblanc Writers Edition: Hemingway, Christie, Wilde, Voltaire, Dumas, Dostoevsky, Poe, Proust, Schiller, Dickens, Fitzgerald (set), Verne, Kafka, Cervantes, Woolf, Faulkner, Shaw, Mann, Twain, Collodi, Swift, Balzac, Defoe, Tolstoy, Shakespeare, Saint-Exupery, Homer & Kipling. Montblanc Einstein (3,000) FP. Montblanc Heritage 1912 Resin FP. Montblanc Starwalker Resin: FP/BP/MP. Montblanc Traveller FP.

Strongly disagree, for a number of reasons. But I'll just mention the factual one: if you send money through PayPal as a sale, you get PP protection, which is essentially exactly the same as eBay.

Given your experience, you would likely be fine. The OP seems to have choosing about getting a fake. Odds are much higher on eBay vs. here to get stuck with a fake. I mean there are numerous threads about fakes on eBay, but not about fakes in the classifieds here.

I but from eBay all the time, but I know what I am looking for and know what I am doing. There are definitely deals.

For the less experienced, my opinion is that here is a safer bet. If you have more money and want a new pen, buy from an authorized dealer. The good news is that there are lots of options.

I have an eBay profile that has become highly trusted due to the fact that I get all of my items checked for authenticity at a Montblanc boutique.

I recommend buying here, especially if you are new to pens or the Montblanc brand. I buy on eBay, and it's a rodeo every time.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

some AD's are on ebay but they dont post MB pens for sale. They cant post prices online so you have to call then directly.

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing

I have no problems buying from ebay either.

There are many large sellers on there who have sold hundreds of Montblanc pens without any problems. When you do a search for Montblanc 146, you just have to take care and find the right pen/seller for you.

As a buyer you are properly covered on ebay by ebay's buyer protection scheme. It is much quicker and simpler for a buyer than claiming a refund via a PayPal payment only

I've seen Montgomery Stationary on eBay for many, many years. They always have a huge stock of Montblanc and other big name pens. I've always wondered where they source their pens and the authenticity issue as well. They seem to have a good reputation, but as any long term eBay shopper knows, positive feedback doesn't always indicate authenticity. It can just as easily mean that buyers don't know they've been duped. Not saying this is the case with Montgomery Stationary though. I'm just mostly wondering if you guys had any experience with them.

Hey, Murphy.....the worst thing{s} one can say about Montgomery....

prices are high..and their customer service can be iffy........

If you want to know what folks here are thinkin' bout 'em over the last nine years........

Do a custom Google search for The Fountain Pen Network..

in the matter of Montgomery.....

Oh yes! Their pricing is completely obscene! I bought a Waterman Expert from them nine years ago and at least back then, they were fairly reasonably priced. Now? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I'll definitely do a search about them here. I'm intrigued. ;)

Edit note: I just realized that I've been spelling Montgomery StationEry incorrectly. Hate it when that happens!

Thanks!

I find ebay very frustrating. The prices often seen outlandish. Many of the sellers appear to exist in an alternate reality, a parallel universe. The most snobby mb boutique is more fun than those guys.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
