Custom Pen Wrap By Exbpens

Recommended Posts

I am now the proud owner of a one-of-a-kind custom pen wrap from EXBPens, made by FPN member exboling. It is absolutely beautiful:

When I contacted Elizabeth, I had no idea what, exactly, I wanted, or what my options were. She helped me find the right fabrics, and went above and beyond the call of penwrappery in working out the aesthetics and the practical concerns.

The exterior is a fabric imprinted with cursive hieroglyphic text from the Papyrus of Ani, the best surviving example of the Book of Going Forth by Day (aka the Book of the Dead), even after that reprobate Sir E. A. Wallis Budge chopped it to bits to make it more convenient for himself. Which is neither here nor there, as no one is chopping this to bits! Intriguingly, when rolled up it looks remarkably like Gardiner Y1, the hieroglyph of a papyrus scroll.

Unrolled, the interior fabric peeks out. Folding Ani's user's manual for the afterlife back, we see:

The interior is a nifty Art Deco-y pattern of papyrus-flowers above the waters of the Nile. The blue lining evokes the color of Egyptian faience, and the beads at the ends of the cord ties look uncannily like faience beads the ancients would have used.

This was made with skill and care -- Elizabeth is a genuine artist -- and I am absolutely thrilled to have it. I'm going to wind up carrying three times my usual complement of pens around, just so I can have the pleasure of opening up the one and only Art Deco Papyrus of Ani Gardiner Y1 Pen Wrap in existence! :cloud9:

Absolutely beautiful work. I don't think I'll ever see a wrap as gorgeous as that again. Thanks for posting.

Keep your nose clean and your nib wet.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
