How About A Group Buy For Inks In India

That is a great idea if we can solve the shipping problems. As far as I can tell, there is no source in the US for Indian inks today except one eBay seller in India. So I would definitely join.

But for me, ignorance is a problem. I have tried a little Camlin ink (loved it) and I've heard of Chelpark ink but not tried it. Otherwise, I have no idea what inks are available in India or how experienced users feel about them. Could someone provide a little education for us foreigners?

Camlin:

A very old company, now Kokuyo, Japan has majority shares in this company. The Camel brand ink is a very old one and well reputed for very inexpensive but superb quality ink. My favorites: Royal Blue and Violet (now sadly discontinued). The Inks used to conform to ISI standards and used to have the ISI mark, but no longer, but the Quality is still as good as before. This ink is distributed all over India.

Chelpark: The result of the sale of Parker's ink business in India to their Indian partner. Well reputed good quality ink, but nowadays made by a company called PG Stationery. The Royal Blue and Ruby Red used to be my favorites, but I dont like the PG stationery made inks... This ink used to be distributed all over India.

Bril: A very well reputed manufacturer of inks located in the South of India. Their products are not available outside the 4 South Indian states. The Royal Blue Ink still carries the ISI mark. The Royal Blue is my personal favorite, very well behaved ink. The laurel rose is unique among the three being a nice saturated pink offering. The Black is quite OK. Their Green also is very good. The Turquoise is dull, I have their Red but I have never used it, I think...

Thanks Hari!

Based on that, I would definitely be interested in a Bril purchase.

I'd be interested for both De Atramentis and Bril (any of their colours). Although, I'm not sure I would need 50 bottles myself! Would it be possible to loop in a few resellers or stockists to enthuse them?

Are we talking the same rupee here..

As far as i know 1 rupee is inl 0.0147 eurocent

So 15 rupees is a little more than 0.22 euro

I believe even in Eastern Europe one cannot even buy anbink cartridge for that money

If shipping can be solved count me in for Bril. For De Atramentis, I would have to know more particulars, such as how many bottles and what colors. Rather than bundling these two ideas together they might be split. First try to work a Bril purchase and then come back to the De Atramentis.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
