Want Tsugaru-Nuri Pen

Drawing61

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Any advice on how I might acquire one of these pens short of traveling to Japan? I particularly like the Kara-nuri and Nanako-nuri techniques but am interested in anything in the genre. I realize they are apt to be very expensive. Thanks in advance for your help.

I've not seen any Nakaya pens is those techniques but you can easily order a Danitrio, or have Ernest Shin finish an Edison pen, in one of those techniques. Nibs.com is the main Danitrio dealer, at the moment. Chatterley Luxuries has some as well. If you want an Edison, you'd have to contact Ernest directly.

Very cool! Which ones did you pick?

Oh my goodness, I'm so jealous. Chatterley definitely does have great prices on Danitrio. I have a Kara-Nuri Edison Pearl on the way. It will look exactly like this pen: http://www.hakuminurushi.com/lacquerware/shibourushitsugarunuri/pieces/edisonpearlproj/details.html But I really want to get a Danitrio someday. I'll probably just go for a Ao Roiro-migaki Mikado (plain blue urushi) I remember seeing the Green Willow Takumi on Chatterley's site ... it was gorgeous! Did you get the one with the urushi covered clip?

It would be great to see some pictures of your pens in due course rpsyed and Drawing61 :)

Definitely! I believe it's due to be finished around mid-April. It was initially supposed to be done in the beginning of March but Ernest said the finish was taking a little longer to get done.

Thank you :)

Ernest seems to take quite a while to turn work around but I understand the quality is fantastic!

Those are gorgeous! I love the bottom two the most. I didn't even know they made a clipless pen in the Takumi style and that urushi-coated clip is a really nice touch. Nice acquisitions! Thanks for sharing that.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
