Heart's Lament (P2)

A while back, I got a bunch of ink bottles of colors that work very well for mixing. Thus, I decided to start a "line" of inks, running around the theme of "Hearts." It was sorta a personal choice of the theme, but the next few ink mixes will be from this "line." These inks will all be made from normal, and easily obtainable inks. This excludes BlackStone, KWZI, and Akkerman inks. I will be sticking to the regulars, like Parker, PR, Diamine, and Noodler's.

This ink is called Heart's Lament and is the second ink in this series of 8. It has an internal organization code of P2 for Purple Mix #2 Batch #1.  Note that the water in the formula is optional. The pictures are of the ink WITH water.

The formula for the ink is as follows.

Private Reserve Plum (3mL)
Parker Quink Black (49 Drops or 2.5mL)

Here are pictures of the ink, following my normal review pattern, minus commentary. Please comment on how you like it!

The pictures were taken with an iPhone 6, back camera, in artificial lighting. Effort has been made to show the true color, but your milage may vary depending on your monitor. If you would like to see all my ink images, you are free to go to http://files.goviralforyou.com/Inks/Reviews

Here is a preview of the ink. It is a dark purple-black ink.

The review was written with my favorite, the Nemosine Singularity Demonstrator, in a TWSBI B nib. The TWSBI B is slightly finer than the Nemosine B, but not by much. It's only a hairline difference. It was also tested in a Nemosine 0.6mm stub, which was reground by me ink a 1.0mm right oblique for fun.

The review was written on HP 32lb Premium Laser Paper, which can be found at Staples for the whooping price of $19.99, or on Amazon for $15.39. This is my new "standard" paper I will be using for all my reviews, writing, and comparisons. I still have a bit of HP 28lb, which is now discontinued, but I am going to be moving to this one now, as it is much better, IMO.

Here is the swab of the ink. It was made with the back of the nib, as I didn't have my Q-Tips handy.

Here is a poorly drawn heart to show how the ink looks with sketching, and coloring.

Here is a comparison with other ink colors. Use this as a calibration for your monitors and the photos. I did not intend this to show similar colors. It was actually supposed to be Quink BLACK not blue.

Here is a water test. The top grid had drops of water placed for 10 seconds, then vigorously wiped downwards. The bottom text did not receive any drops of water and was only wiped with in the same motion as the grid.

Lastly, here is a scan of the review. Use the scan to read the rest of the review. I did not intend for it to show color accuracy. The pictures are the most accurate representation of the color.

Like this one.. Will have a go trying to get that shade.. What to do if I wanted to enhance the shading aspects of this one, you think?

Adding a little bit of water can help bring out shading. It may make the ink a little bit drier, so add a tiny tiny tiny drop of dish soap to the mix once you are done.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
