I managed to get a Parker 45 Arrow (Plastic cap) in dark blue with box and original converter for $10. Did I do well?

Here it is. Light scratching on the plastic, but all could be polished out. Little to no shrinkage on the section. Fine steel nib. Cleaned out well, and writes.

very nice and a good deal too! I think the '45' is very under rated - I have quite a collection of them myself......

Am I right in thinking that a Parker Arrow pre-1981 is just a 45 with a plastic cap?

Looking for a black SJ Transitional Esterbrook Pen. (It's smaller than an sj)

<Whispering 'cause we really don't want this getting out.>

Yeah but.

I THINK they first started in Newhaven and are often found, all 4 of mine, with 14 k nibs.

IMO, the all plastic Arrow is the lightest and best balanced 45.

Again, IMO, the Arrow cap clutch (not needing to hold as much weight secure as a metal capped model) also doesn't deform the hood as bad or as often.

Shush.

I'm up to four 45s now, and my dark blue Arrow is constantly in use. I've got Quink Blue-Black in it, and the combination is perfect.

I am up to twenty three now with the arrival of three more just a few days ago. One the Arrow Deluxe 45 (with 14k gold nib) posted above and two NOS (Engish) GT flighters also with 14k gold nibs.

What makes a Parker 45 an Arrow?

Baptiste knew how to make a short job long

For love of it. And yet not waste time either.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
