So, I came across this pen on ebay and got it. Was wondering if someone could give me more info on it. Also I was wondering what the "ringtop" did, I would assume it was for decoration, but maybe has a purpose? The nib has the number 5365574, I don't know what it means.

Ringtops were for attaching a chain, lanyard or ribbon. Some small ringtops were called lady's pens some were vest pocket pens. This looks like a lady size pen. The numbers are found on Lifetime nibs.

It's a model K74SR from the late '20s-early '30s. Note that the cap lip is broken off.

First FP i've seen without a clip. Very interesting. Thanks for posting

 

They were very common before the mid-1930s. Hop over to eBay and search the Pens category for "ringtop" to see another hundred or so examples.

Pocket clips were often not put on Ladies pens because women's blouses typically did not have pockets so the ring tops were for attaching the pen to a ribbon so they could be worn around the neck or easily found in a purse.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
