Greetings From Barbados

Greetings everyone I am from the island of Barbados which is in the Caribbean,

I just discovered fountain pens 3 weeks ago in my search for a smooth writer after my frustration with ball point pens. I got me a cross bailey medalist, medium nib. Works very well but I believe a finer nib will be better for my tastes. I am certainly in love with fountain pens now and my only regret is not knowing about them sooner.

On my job I do alot of writing at present I am looking for a pen that offers a large ink capacity I am looking at the TWSBI pison fillers however the early 580s had issues not sure if defects still present.

If anyone can offer suggestions that will be awesome.

-Barry

Welcome. The home of where those of us who are still digging out of snow, expecting another round of snow, seen enough snow would love to be right now.

I just purchased a TWSBI 580 USA version. Yes, it holds a lot of ink. Believe I received it last Monday, and I have just moments ago cleaned it for a new filling. I am an avid journal writer and list maker so it would be a nice choice. I got tired of the ink before I used it all up, if that helps.

There are other options, but you are so new, won't overwhelm you at this point. There will be plenty of forums, people with experience and ideas who will offer other suggestions. In the meantime, enjoy both your new passion for fountain pens and being here. :W2FPN:

Welcome, Barry !

I have a TWSBI, and have given several as gifts. No issues to report.

Your Cross Bailey is a handsome fountain pen. If yours is writing nicely, you will come to love it.

Remember to use the relaxed-grip, light-touch writing technique for fountain pens. If you think

the nib is a bit too wide, try writing larger, with a more pleasing ink color.

Are the 45 seconds needed to change an ink cartridge, so critical in using your fountain pen ?

Would you be able to install a full cartridge, just prior to attending a meeting ?

I love and enjoy the variety in fountain pens. I hope you will amass many to enhance your enjoyment. While

buying pens to solve an "issue" is reasonable, it can be expensive. Adjustment of the pen user costs nothing,

and is worth trying.

Write with joy.

Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

Hi Barry and welcome to FPN

Remember a piston filler will be empty too at some point. So you will have to have a bottle of ink at the job as well. No problem if that is in the office and you can take the time to refill. But Cartridges are easy, simple and fast. AND more expensive, AND the ink choice is more limited. The choice is yours.

Both in Pistonfillers as in Cartridge fillers the choice is extensive. It's up to you

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
