How Do You Hold Your Pen When You Write?

I have seen people hold a pen with different grip styles and i was wondering how do you hold your pen when you write?

Here is how I hold a writing tool.http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f239/Jotteraddict62/001_zps69d1w5ic.jpg

I know people hold things different with their hands, maybe it's how they learn to hold a spoon, fork & pen when they were young and that works for them. Not here to judge, just curious on how people hold their pens when they write.

Pretty much the same way, but closer to the nib.

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

Yours is a pretty standard hold. Mine is very similar.

Enjoy,

Yours,

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

My 10 year old grandaughter holds her bp pen very close to the point, with the tip under her hand and the top pointing away from her. She thought I was crazy when I tried to correct her.

Then I was startled to see a graduate student holding her pen the same way. I showed her how I hold the pen, similar to the photo above.

She told me my fingers were too far away. I was giving the nib too much freedom.

I told her "I have a dream ..."

You have short, stubby fingers. Except that my hand has more wrinkles, the photo could be my right hand.

I think that my index finger extends a tad more. (Wife says, "Nice nails.")

With my hand most of the time. Sometimes my mouth. ;)

Generally speaking, very close to the op pic, with the exception of italics.

I recently evaluated a woman who holds her pen with her foot. She writes pretty well with her foot. She has no functional use of her hands.

Usually, close to the nib and nearly perpendicular to the page. Probably from the years when my favorite pen was the Pentel Ceramicron (similar tip to Rapidographs). Sometimes I adjust the angle depending on the nib and what line it writes.

I don't really have to think about it - the slightly lower angle - but if I pick up a pen and start writing, it's usually at the high angle.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
