Joys Of Buying Pen In A Singapore Pen Shops

I had a great buying experience in Singapore recently. There is a beautiful pen shop in Orchard Road within Mandarin Orchard hotel just above the Montblanc flagship store. It stocks good variety of pens and writing stuffs and very rare Japanese makie pens of vintage and new types. No flaunting of these expensive stuffs to intimidate us ( my wife and child) but they were subtle. Definitely a must visit of Singapore pen shop for high end collectors. For me, I am happy with their service and they gave my son a free set of colour pencils even before I said I want to buy anything from them. A true shopping and eye opening experience!

I am not related to the business just a shopper.

the shop must be Elephant & Coral. i frequently visit the shop when i find myself in singapore. i agree, they do provide great services and very helpful and friendly to all customers. they often encourage me to try out pens even when i don't buy anything. i get the sense they are there to spread their love and appreciation for fountain pens, more than just selling pens.

Hello,

I've been looking up some threads on pen stores in Singapore but they're all relatively old, could you or others just some stores? From what I've read elephant and coral was rude compared to Fook Hing, I assume their customer service has since changed?

Thanks

Could you suggest some other pen stores that are worth a visit?

Thanks

i don't know many pen shops in singapore. but you can also try another another upscale one called Aesthetic Bay, which located inside ION mall. i been there twice. i didn't get a feeling like i was being provided with a proper customer service both times and so i never made the shop a priority. but to their credit, they do have a large selection of pens. more than Elephant & Coral and Fook Hing. so maybe you can give that a try. who knows, you might get a better service than i did.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
