Hi! I'm SHIRABOSHI

This time, I've updated the 149 trends table.

1st topic ↓

The upper(long and black) is old(until 2013), and the lower(short and grey)

is new(from 2014).

End knob and spiral rod are now separate parts (from 2014).

Good morning Shiraboshi,

Thank you for the exhaustive and encyclopedic job you have done with one of the all-time great fountain pens: Montblanc 149. You are a sensi and a gentleman. Thank you for sharing such interesting and important research. You have taught everyone here much about the 149. It seems you too have a good deal of free time on your hands. That is how one comes to spend many hours exploring a single topic. We are all happy that you have chosen the 149 for your truly brilliant & successful research. Thank you again.

Best wishes,

Barry

This table represents an important contribution and your work is much appreciated. Since the "date my MB" question is a recurring theme on this forum, perhaps your table could be "pinned" by the moderators for easy access and reference. In any event, very nice job!

I quite agree with you! This great table should be pinned. I would like the moderators to do so.

Mr. rokurinpapa

Thank you very much.

Words of cheer will be encouraging.

English is still, but I will continue to work hard in life's work.

Don't worry about your English, your words and thoughts come across just fine.

Thank you for all your hard work and dedication on this.

I have aways liked 149s. One of them was my first nice fountain pen. Thanks for the work you've put into this. Now, I just have to go about collecting one of each.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Yup, now I can see it.

If at all possible, would you be so kind as to use the "Upload" tab to place a copy of this valuable document directly on FPN? That way, if something should happen to the blog, the information will not be lost due to a broken link.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
