Hey, just saw this. I bought some Ogami paper at Farhney's in DC back in January. I've been busy using up other stuff, so I admit I haven't written in that journal much since I got it home. However, I asked about it in the store, and the clerk working with me was raving about it. Let me be clear, that is a man of VERY few words, and he was raving to me about this paper. He let me try some before i bought it, both with a FP and with one of those Forever pencils. The "paper" is smooth as a baby's bootie. You would not know it was not paper (you know, without tree pulp, can it be paper, as one of my penpals commented?). It handled my FP just fine, and it was writing a little wet. The only problem was when my pen threw a big blob of ink - couldn't get that soaked up fast enough. The pencil looked great against that paper. My husband was completely impressed with it, and he is a pencil person who is often fine with cheap paper.

It is expensive, yes, but I think you will get you pay for in this case. I think I will jump in this deal.

Just to note that I just read the comments on the Massdrop, and a couple of people noted that the paper takes longer to dry with liquid inks. As I said, I've had little experience myself with the pad I own, so I don't want to mislead anyone about it. Looks like a great deal if you use pencils or BPs, but may be a little iffy for RBs and FPs (after all, the paper IS water resistant!)

It won't let me view the page without signing up for an account or signing in with Facebook (which I don't use), so I can't comment on anything to do with this "Massdrop" site. But I've read a few things in this forum about the "stone" paper, and have taken the liberty of Googling it, and there may be a couple of issues.

First, in the context of this forum, is that it may well wear down nibs fairly quickly. One of our resident nibmeisters pointed out that the final grades of sandpaper used in shaping a nib are so fine they feel smooth to human fingers, but they do an excellent job of wearing away nib tipping material. This paper could well do the same.

Second, any environmental protection garnered from not using wood pulp to make this paper would seem to be offset by using high-density polyethylene to bond the marble dust. So if you're looking at this as a way to save the environment, the two are probably about equal -- trees and chemicals or marble dust and petrochemicals. It's also worth noting that this stuff will probably never biodegrade, so, good for archiving, not so good for landfills.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
