Platinum 3776 Maki-E Sakura Cherry Blossom

I've been dreaming about this pen since I first saw it online and found it for a very good price on Engeika's web site. After reading all the positive and negative comments I decided to take my chances and ordered the pen today; I also sent an email asking for a time frame for shipment. I'm prepared to wait quite a while for the pen but sure hope I get a response to my email other than the autoreply.

I hope he comes through. A whole lotta hoping goin' on.

Thanks, kbrede. Good news - I got a reply to my inquiry today, less than 24 hours after I sent it. I'm feeling optimistic.

Post plenty of **quality** images of it. Also provide a summary of your shopping experience with Engieka and how long it took to get a shipment notification to the time it arrived, etc.

Shipping should take exactly 4 business days from the shipping date. Every package I've received from Japan via EMS has arrived in 4 days. Since the USPS handles delivery on this side, there should be Cherry Blossoms in Dallas on Saturday. Hope you love it!

I enjoy MB 146 pens, Sailor, Pilot and Platinum pens as well. I have a strong attraction to dark red and muted green ink, colors I dislike for everything but FP ink. I also enjoy practicing my handwriting and attempting to improve it. I love the feel of quality paper under a gold nib.

Saturday would make me one very happy camper! The icy weather here may delay things however. Brrrr!

Sounds like an interesting pen. I have dealt with Engeika before and he is very reputable. Please post some photos of it when you get it. I do like Platinum pens.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

It's gorgeous and perfect (yep, looked it over with a loupe). I'll post pictures this weekend when I have some decent light.

I would definitely order from Engeika again.

Awesome. Glad it arrived safely and timely. Definitely a beautiful pen. I for one would love to see pics when you have time.

***what nib size did you order? My 3776 Century has a broad nib, and its one of the nicest nibs I have! It's so nice it got me off my medium nib kick and now I have quite a few broad nibs to choose from.

Pictures, as requested. I missed the tip of the nib in the second picture, it's a standard Platinum 3776 gold nib.

Jeff_H: I got a B - same as on my Blue Chartres. I got the B because of all I had read about Japanese nibs running finer than western nibs and I've found, for both these pens, that's accurate. I'd call it a medium to medium-broad. Both 3776s wrote perfectly out of the box.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
