Iconic Parkers Every Collector Must Have

I've got a pretty good start, but want some opinions from the experts.

Here's what I have:

1. Lucky curve JKS (Bakelite barrel)

2. Original duofold "big red" circa mid 1920's

3. Many 75's FP's

4. T1

5. Several 51's with GF caps

6. Sterling silver cisele BP and pencils

7. Limited Bicentennial FP

8. Blue azure Vacumatic

9. 45's

10. 88's

11. First year jotters (red)

12. Parker varsity FP (all colors)

I have a lot more, but these are what I remembered off the top of my head. I have bids on a 61 rainbow cap and a striped blue duofold (duovac). Any other suggestions would really help. Thanks!

Love the clip on the varsity. Agree on the Sonnet. Add 61, a signet of some type (51, 61, 45, whatever), striped Duofold,50, 65, more Vacs, an old desk pen (duofold, Parkette, or the like - too cool), a 51 desk pen (for daily use). I like 25s, but that's not everyone's cup of tea.

One test is worth a thousand expert opinions.

The Sonnet needs to come OFF any Parker icon list.

For an extended period of time Parker purposely shipped the pens knowing they had Baby Bottom and/or inner cap assembly issues that were serious if not fatal. It apparently was easier to replace the pens than not make them with the issues.

You don't get an award for screwing up.

Sorry.

Have you tried a post 2010 Sonnet... Nope

However some one who has owned 2 post 2010 pens and many others others on the forum will tell you that these problem no longer exists. Perhaps it might time to try a new Sonnet instead of moaning about a single bad pen. I'm sure in the days of the 45 and 51 there were the odd bad pens.

Just because Parker Finally fixed the issues doesn't absolve them of them to begin with.

The length of time and number of pens affected are in another galaxy than your minor "odd bad pens" statement.

The two issues I noted were unaddressed by Parker for YEARS.

If you think that's worthy of admiration and an award, you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

I'm a Sonnet fan. I have three. In my opinion the Sonnet Flighter GT belongs on the list.

Owner of many fine Parker fountain pens... and one Lamy.

I would like one of each pen [ model, color, style ] for the FP's.

Now for the Jotters, I would like one of every advertising Jotter that was made thru 1980. Thank you very much. Does anybody know how many were imprinted? We shall never know.

USAF N-3B parka... oh wait. That's not a pen.

When I was in the Army in the 70's, I was stationed at Ft. Benning, Ga (Where they filmed the John Wayne Green Beret movie) and stayed the weekends at my Grandmother's in Atlanta, about a 2.5 hr drive each way.

I made the drive for over a year in a 1966 Sunbeam Tiger, a Brother by another Mother to the Shelby Cobra. The Tiger was the hottest car I ever drove in the Summer, no A/C (I had a pair of flops Melt to the floor once) and The Coldest car during the Winter. Remember, it's "electronics" were by Lucas, The Prince of Darkness.

I found my Dad's exact parka above that he had worn in South Korea in my Grandmother's closet and ask my Dad if I could borrow it over the Winter.

Dad's was one of the ones that still had Real fur, Fox I think, around the collar. I would wear it Over my Army field jacket for the drive back to Benning on Monday mornings. With the field jacket And parka on, I could barely move inside the Tiger, I felt like an astronaut in a Mercury capsule.

At least the top half of me would stay mostly warm on my ride to work on Mondays. It would be so cold inside the car though that

my feet were usually numb when I got to Ft. Benning.

I can still feel that parka fur around my neck... ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
